This country seems to be waking up to rail being a environmental necessity.

Lets just hope it isn't another pipe dream although the horrors of upgrading the west coast are still fresh in my cold Crewe froze ****, lets hope they get it right this time.

On the local south west ITV news last night they were suggesting that the west of England trains would be dual electric/diesel. I find this rather unlikely. I would have thought a better solution was to revert to routing the non-electric west country trains along the Castle Cary or old LSWR route.

It's good news that the GW mainline is to be electrified at last. But the worry has to be that the rest of the network will be starved of investment to pay for it.
