guidance with continuous operation

I want to do a continuous operation (where I can save and continue later) running goods or passengers from point A to point B but I have no idea where to start or what to do. I would like to have AI trains in it so it doesn't feel so lonely being the only train on the track. Can anyone point me in the right direction for instructions on how to run a continuous operation? If so that would be very much appreciated.

Well with my limited knowledge I've been able to make an AI train run on a looped track by placing a few track marks at quite a distance apart, telling the AI train to go to all the points then ordering it to repeat the cycle.

That way it will go round and round and round. Place down some signals and it will react accordingly if something gets in it's way. Just try not to place down a track mark of double track area's. That way it won't confuse the driver into backing down the mainline to hit it.

That is very easy: Just start your daily routine of running everything as you normally do. At the end, just save the session giving it whatever name you decide. When you open that session, everything will be as you left it the day before, and you can continue operating it. If you have AI trains, they will continue running as when you saved the session. Now, to make trains run in AI is a little more elaborate, but we can tell you how to do it. Trainz is beautiful for letting you do all this and more (as you'll discover when you get more involved).

How do I get started to begin with, pardon my not being very knowledgeable on this stuff. How do I find out what industry needs what and where it needs to go? Do the waybills create their self as industries need items? I plan on useing an already made route (hopefully one that is in Alberta)

What you want to do is something I have done, and many times. Depending on the complexity of the track, it can range from hard to very hard, but it is certainly worth doing. I like to to set up the passenger rakes first, as they run in the background constantly, and then work on my consist, (usually a local that services various industries). Lastly, I add in the AI trains from portals, because timing is everything.

The first step is to get your passenger service running flawlessly, and to do that you need to pick a route. Once you have done that, we can walk you through it.

On a different subject to the subject(s) of this thread, but does anyone know where I can find some Sydney CityRail trains (In order, C class set, K class set, V class set and R & S set).

I have found S class set and M class set on the DLS, but I need these sets.

For the Route I would like to take the different Alberta run routes and link them together for one big route, but It seems to be missing a lot of dependencies (a problem wich I had useing TRS2006) Come to think of it I have never had a successfull canadian addon route downloaded. But that would be the route I would be useing if it works.

Yes, I finally made the decision to buy 2009 but I don't see any difference just a bunch of routes and activities from previous versions combined into one. I'm not into building routes/ activities, I just like to hop into a locomotive and do what's needed to keep the railroad running (like in real world operations.)

You wont need to download the old version of Alberta run as the new one has all that the old on had plus more. Simply download the latest version and you should be good to go. I have no idea if it will work on the new 2009 version.

I downloaded what appears to be the new one (around 64MB) but there are assets missing and faulty assets as well.

It's not the map or the content....it's 2009. The route you are trying to use is from a time previous to 2009, and contains objects not made to 2009 standards.

Use CM2 to identify the errors first by using the faulty filter, then work on the missing dependencies.
