What is a Guards Indicator, and what dose it do? kuid:61119:23105>
It would be nice if there was some kind of explanations of what things do and how they work. (sorry to be using your asset Natverder but it's the one i had questions at the time.) There is a lot that in my trainz 06 that i can't seem to get to work because there is no explanations on them.
Thanks Danny5

How to use. . . I think!

Hi
Guard indicators are part of "Trackside Objects" and are placed at the end of platforms facing the direction of travel. You have to 'allocate' a controlling signal by naming it (use the ? mark). Again using the ? mark name the Guard Indicator and select the controlling signal. If done correctly it acts as a repeater signal indicating a white light if the controlling signal is 'clear'.

Anyway that's how I use them. If I'm wrong I'm sure one of the 'experts' will correct me.;)

In NSW practice its a guard that starts a train - passanger - you are right that its to let the guard now if there a clear signal ahead and then blows his whistle and shows a green or sometimes a white flag to the driver - or uses his bell push on the sparkes, XPT and rail motors to let the drive know he can move off.

Thank you both, not using passenger trains i wont need to use it at this time.
Then again if i have knew more about trains in general i may have none this.
But still would been nice to have an explanation.

Sorry to drag this up again, but I've been wondering for a while now if there's a way to get the QR07 signals to operate in the same way as the guard's indicator to make repeat signals, as opposed to their current mode of operation as approach signals. I've been trying to tweak the config files but with no luck.

The difference being a repeat signal merely shows whether or not the main signal is clear or not (generally used for signals with poor visibility and limited braking distance).

An approach signal is a little different, almost like controlling a block to itself if you like, but the train doesn't have to stop at it. Varied uses, but very good in 2 aspect signalling areas as the yellow is THE warning signal to advise the driver that there's a red ahead. With a repeat, the previous signal would have been showing yellow to warn of the upcoming red.

Any thoughts guys?

Name's the Game♦

Hi Ryan McC

The clue is in the title.

Place the main signal as normal. "?" it and give it a name that is relevant . . . . "SIG01" for example.

Place a signal that has "repeater" in the name (Bloodnok has a few on the DLS) on the same track before the SIG01 main signal. "?" it and give it a name SIG01R (for repeater) as in the example. The dialogue menu will ask for the name of the main signal, which in this case, is SIG01.

Some of the repeaters don't need this amount of attention and when placed they just work.

Done . . . . now it should copy the aspect displayed by the main signal.

Hope this works for you.

Martin

P.S. In AI the repeat signal gets passed with the main signal at danger but at a reduced speed.

Thanks for the advice Martin. I have a few banner repeaters that work that way but I'm really looking at getting the 2 aspect signal to behave that way as well so as not to 'stuff up' the signalling sequence approaching a red.

ATM the signal acts in Trainz as a proper signal so you might get a double yellow, pass the 2A signal showing yellow, and find a red just around the corner. It's great for concentration and route knowledge, but not for realism and SPAD prevention:p .
