Grass Splines

I know this was answered some time ago but I can not find it. When you are driving along the grass seems to appear along the track just in front of you and disappears behind you. I know there is some kind of fix for this so all the grass shows up at once. Can anyone give me the info to fix the config file. Thanks Carl

I've done this trick on just one of Vendel's FMA splines on an approach to a prototypical station. It was really irritating seeing the square sections of grass popping up in front of the view.

I'm not knocking Vendie's fine work though. My routes are very heavily planted with his assets.

I can fully understand the need to keep frame rates under control. However, I'm pretty sure the FMA asset was made back in the time when processors were much slower and the unit_mesh line was put in to reduce the hit on performance. Higher speed computers are probably much better at handling these assets nowadays.

Used sparingly, it can transform the realism.

I took the 'unit-mesh' line out a while ago and then put it back because of the performance hit on a route with two of Vendel's wide splines either side of the track (two widths of the same spline, not two different splines). My rig is nice, but nowhere near state of the art so quite possibly Casper is right - on a newer machine the issue would be lessened.

I prefer a low trackside camera view where the pop-up effect is minimal anyway, but in higher views it can be a bit distracting.

No criticism of the assets expressed or implied, despite being a bit 'old' they are imho still the best grass splines around...

Thank you all for your input on this. I will try it and see just how much of a hit it has on my computer.
