Graphics suddenly appear darker than usual

I have a kind of weird issue that just started to happen on my computer when I open up the game. The graphics in the game, and windows graphics in general appear much darker than they normally are without the game open.

I operate in window mode so that I can work on other things at the same time, and have not had this problem in over a year of this game until now. When I alternate from the game to any other windows program, I can visually see the taskbar of windows get lighter once I leave the game.

I have tried reinstalling the game, to no luck.....

Has anyone else experienced this sudden change in graphics?

Should we assume then, that it's not a possibility that a younger sibling, older parent, or cat, dog, or ferret has; either intentionally or not, altered the monitor's brightness level?

yeah, I'm the only user of this computer, and I can see that when I switch back to another windows program (Excel for example) keeping Trainz minimized....the screen displays properly but when I go back to Trainz its darker again.

Check the gamma setting on the Trainz Graphics Options menu.

how long is it since the computer was cleaned inside, by that I mean dusted out. A build up of deposits causes overheating through poor cooling then loss of performance follows caused by components clocking back automatically trying to lower temp.
Or you could do the blatantly obvious as skol587 suggests below.

update your Graphics drivers unless there alreddy up to date then i dont know what to say

ASUS

I have found this sudden darkness syndrome and discovered that ASUS had suddenly started in the background.
Doing alt+tab there it was, the ASUS menu in the middle of PC's screen.
Closing it put the brightness back into my Trainz life!

What I usually do is use EndItAll to shut down all background programs that start when your PC boots so allowing the full amount of memory to be available for our favourite program. If I don't then I get the above situation arise.
