Graphics Card

Just built a new computer and I am looking for a good graphics card; one that at the least will give me all of the resolution and stutter free operation that 12 is capable of. What would you recommend?:D

My system is configured as:

1. ASUS Sabertooth MB P67
2. Intel i7-2600T
3. Silenx CPU Cooler
4. Corsair Vengance DDR3 8GB
5. Vertex 3 - 60 Gb SSD
6. Hitachi - Deskstar 7200 rpm 500Gb HD
7. Western Digital- green - 2 TB HD (2)
8. Thermotake TR2 800W PS
9. Cooler Master HAP 932 case
10. Widows 7 Ultimate
11. Graphics Card - Geforce 8600 (2) linked (taken from previous computer) - Not working too impressively

Systems also does double duty for video games (kids) and a music server for the home.

Wow, yeah, you aren't kidding: The GPU is the issue. You can comfortably get just about any single GPU card with that PSU. For an i7 SnB-based machine, assuming it is to be used JUST for Trainz, you can probably get an nVidia 560 if you want to get a good bang for your buck. If your kids play some high-end games, you may wish to move up to a more expensive card, but the 560 (not the Ti version) can be had from Tigerdirect from about $190 with 2Gb DDR5. That should be pretty good for Trainz and other DX9-based sims.

If $190 is too steep, a 550Ti isn't bad either. You can pick one up for about $110 at Tigerdirect on rebate.

ATI is the best i have 2 x Nvidia GTX 580's and i get much smoother play with my ATI 6970 Gigabyte overclocked tripple fan,,,way better than Nvidia

That's personal opinion, everyone has their preference on cards, I have always used nVidia and had no problems, whereas ATi, only had 1 and never again. So the best card is the one that suits your budget...

personally have the GTX570 myself, got it pretty cheaply at the time, does the job well and will run todays high end games pretty darn well as well, just thought id throw my 2 cents in, the gtx range is pretty good from experience when i was building systems for work

Well, it sounds like the GTX 570 crowd wins the day. I've got a Tiger Direct up in Dallas, so i think i'll take a trip up there in a few weekends and get one.

I've just bought an XFX R7950 Double Dissipation GPU and put my previous XFX 6950 on ebay. The 7970 is supposedly the most powerful single GPU on the planet so if your budget will stretch, go for that.
