graphic card

I would guess you would use the NV display controller to set the preference to "performance" -vs- "quality".

Hi Celje - I am running nVidia 8800GTX with slider maxed over to "Quality", and it runs extremely well with large layouts, numerous locos etc. etc.

Regards. Colin.

Hello

Thank you for your answers. I'm a little surprised, it's three weeks ago...

I have Pentium Duo E8400 3GHz, Nvidia9800gt 1gb overclocked, 4 gb DDR2 800mhz 2x2 dual channel, monitor 19".
The settings in Nvidia Control Panel Manage 3D setting for Trainz are:

anisotropic filtering --------------------------8x
antialiasing - gamma correction --------------global setting
antialiasing - mode ---------------------------override any aplication
antialiasing - setting --------------------------8x
antialiasing - transparency ---------------------supersampling
conformant texture clamp ---------------------use hardware
error reporting -------------------------------off
extension limit --------------------------------off
force mipmaps --------------------------------trilinear
maximum prerender frames --------------------3
multi display/mixed gpu acceleration------------single display

texture filtering-negative LOD bias-------------clamp
texture filtering quality--------------------------high quality
texture filtering - anisotropic mip filter----------off
threaded optimization--------------------------auto
triple buffering---------------------------------on
vertical sync-----------------------------------force off

Any suggestion please

Those "settings" should be OK... What you have to way up is "Quality" veruses "Performance". (Try experimenting if you are not happy with your current settings).
If you feel your "Performance" is taking too much of a hit, try turning down your anisotropic filtering to 4x & antialiasing setting to 4x. If it doesn't appear to make any differences, you can always take them back upto 8x... (some gamers turn off antialiasing in some games because of the 'performance hit').

One thing I would check is to see whether you are running the latest Nvidia drivers for your 9800GT.

GeForce Driver Release 182 WHQL
Version: 182.08
Release Date: March 03, 2009
Operating System: Windows XP, Windows XP Media Center Edition
Language: U.S. English
File Size: 77.0 MB

You can download the latest drivers from here; http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_182.08_whql.html

For anyone else that has a different Nvidia card and wants to checkout the latest drivers, click on this link; http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Cheers, Mac... :)

Also note that there are a huge number of existing posts covering tuning and performance issues. Do some searches and you will find all kinds of advice. I have found that TrainzOptionz suggestions extremely valuable.

Enjoy Trainz!
