Good steam locomotives on the DLS?

Hi all,

I've been looking for decent steam locomotives on the DLS. I found the Mallard and the PRR S-1 locomotives, and I rather like them. I can't seem to find the Class J / Northern type of 4-8-4 locomotives.

Something like this would be good.

Does anybody know or have any suggestions for good quality steam locomotives from 1900's onwards? I want to run steam in a modern setting- imagine when oil / gas runs out and we're back to steam power again. Steam locomotives pulling Amtrak trains or local commuter trains for instance.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Veristek,

If you are looking for American steam locos look under kuid 7592 or Euphod. I think there is a Northern being built, but can't remember who is building it. However Euphod has built a few Mountain class 4-8-2s and some light pacifics 4-6-2s which work very well in 2004 and can be imported into 2006.

The RENFE Confederacion is generally considered to be the best looking kettle - follow the link in the "The most Beautiful Loco In Trainz?" thread. In UK steam the 9F already mentioned is also available as Evening Star and Black Prince. The Class J39 and the GCR ROD are attractive medium power goods engines.

I'd have to agree that the RENFE steamer is up there with the best:

And the 9F too:

On the Download Station there are several variants of kuid 135744:146, for example, at kuid 7592:10180

Then there's payware that includes:

All reskins of the Frisco Mountain 4-8-2, and many don't include the engine sounds.

The light Pacific is not a reskin of the the Frisco Mountain, and all the locomotives included engine sounds already on the DLS when uploaded.

I've seen some Trainz screenshots here and from other sites that shows the Northern / J class steamers like the one picture I showed at the beginning of this thread.

Does anybody know where I can get that locomotive? I've seen ones in the Southern Pacific colors and a few other RR company schemes as well.

Also thanks for the additional steam locomotive suggestions. I've downloaded the RENFE, Merchant Navy, and several of Euphod's locomotives. There's just something about steam locomotives that beats today's diesels and electric locomotives. Maybe its the old-school feeling, or the majesty of huge pistons, steam plumes, and watching these huge iron beasts in motion... on diesels and electric locomotives, you don't really "see" them in action the way you see steam locomotives do.

Amen, brother...

There's a Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 Hudson that looks much like your opening screen shot, Veristek. It's KUID 193148:1348 on the DLS.

Anybody know where I found the UP Big Boy - KUID 523:10070 ?

Both engines and their tenders are fault-free in 2006, SP 1.

Also, it might help to search on the White system or whatever it is of wheel designations - a DLS search on 4-6-2, for example, gives 76 hits. Each engine is matched with a separate tender, so that's a maximum of 38 engines -- BUT, there are probably bogies, etc. in there.

Leads on 3rd party sites (as well as on individual assets like engines) are abundant in the Freeware and Payware announcements threads in the Workshops - Your Creations section of the forum.

I can verify that Euphod's engines built for 2004 work in 2006 with no faults, therefore straight out of the box.
