Gondola will not load

I seem to be having trouble getting the first car in my consist of gondolas to load. All the other ones load fine but the one that is directly connected to the loco stays empty. I have had this problem with the PL Industries, but not the built in ones. Also the commodities picker will not let me assign a commodity to the first wagon but it will let me on any subsequent ones. Has anyone had this problem? Is there a solution? Thanks.

Is your first wagon the same type (kuid) as the rest of your consist? If not that may be your problem. Not all wagons (cars) are industry capable. If it's the same type then do you have enough material to load all of the wagons? If I put 30 coal cars on a consist most of the mines cannot load all of them on the first pass through. I have to sit and wait for the mine to replenish. Just some thoughts.

Thanks for the reply. All the wagons in the consist are the same and all the others load fine. The industry is maxed out on production, so it sould have plenty. It skips the first gondola whether I have 20 cars or 2 cars in the consist.

I'll give this some more thought but I'm stumped right now. I'll follow this thread to see if someone else has the answer.

Hi ShortFuse,

Could it be because your train is arriving at the industry at too high a speed and the first gondola is past the loading point before the train stops or gets down to loading speed? You could try manually stopping the train on the approach to the industry and manually driving to the loading area very slowly to see if it loads.

What for locomotive are you running? Sounds almost like you're missing the tender and the loco has the tender script in the config, but that's not possible. What's the kuid of the gondolas?

Bill's answer sounds more plausible.

It sounds like the first gondola is stopping outside the load trigger. That's the only thing I can think of right now.

If, as Bill69 says, the consist is arriving too fast, put a 10mph speedboard just before the industry (NOT on the industry track) and see if that works.

cheers

I am arriving at the industry at a snails pace. I usually stop with the first car on the trigger at all ProtoLARS industries and let the others load in sequence. In this particular case I am using a lashup of 2 MoPac SD-40s, so there is no tender. The gondolas I am using are some I painted from a Paintshed skin. I have not edited the config. file for these since they seem to load fine (all but the first car) without it. The commodities I load with these gondolas are scrap metal and various aggregates. As I mentioned before the commodities picker will not let me select a commodity to that one wagon, but will on the others, so I think the problem lies somewhere other than the industry. I have done a little experimenting and put a empty flatcar in between the loco and gondolas as a "buffer" and all the gondolas will load, but I really don't want to resort to this every time just so all of them will load. I will do a few more tests with different locos to see if that is the problem. I appreciate all of your comments.

Hi ShortFuse,
This bit has me wondering. What happens if you use the comodity picker on that particular wagon when there ar no locos attached, or when you have another wagon in front of it. If the commodity picker works in either of these situations I am lost, but if it does not work in these situations I think it must be something in the config file that is not allowing it to load.

OK, now I'm more confused. I did another test. In the list used to assign the commodities to a paticular car Scrap Metal and Gravel, ect. have never before been on the list when setting up the gondolas, which usually means the car is already setup for that particular commodity or it cannot hold it to begin with (I think). Well anyway when I did my last test they were in the list for the first time, the commodities picker let me assign scrap metal to the first car and all the cars loaded fine. BUT when I started the test session over again they were not on the list!

Hi ShortFuse,

Well now I am confused to. Can you tell me the kuid of the gondola before you edited it in paintshed? I can then put it on a layout and see just what it will load.

Bill, I just tried another test without a loco attached and picker worked and they all loaded. Every time I tried with a loco attached the picker worked fine on all but the first car and they all loaded but the first car. The kuid for the gondola is in Painshed (50ft_Gondola) <kuid:-13:152000>. Thanks for the help. Perhaps I will just start the session without the gondolas attached since that seems to work.

Hi ShortFuse,

Well I am glad one of my suggestions worked, but to be honest I have no idea why having a loco attached should make a difference.
