GMax Fatal Error

Hi All!

I have downloaded version 1.2 of GMax. I have registered and all, but cannot launch the programme.

Everytime I try to open it, I get the following message:

Fatal Error
Interactive 3D Renderer Initialization failed. Please check your device settings by using the -H command line option.

I have un-installed the programme and re-installed, but still get the same message. Does anyone know what I can do to get it to work beside getting violent with it (which is becoming a serious option:mad: )?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Rob

Got all the bits?

From http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax:
GMax Program, gmax12.exe, 19,223KB
Help, gmax12_help.exe, 15,200KB
Tutorials, gmax12_tutorials.exe, 14,512KB
Library, library.exe, 2880KB

From http://www.auran.com/trainz/contentcreation.htm:
Trainz Asset Creation Studio, Trainz_Asset_Creation_Studio.zip, 1251KB

Installed roughly as follows?

GMax Program, gmax12.exe, trivial except that the default target folder is C:\GMax or D:\GMax and most users will wish to change this to C:\Program Files\GMax

Help, gmax12_help.exe, specify the same target folder as for the program, i.e. C:\Program Files\GMax - the help files will then be installed into C:\Program Files\GMax\Help - no Start menu shortcuts are created to the help files.

Tutorials, gmax12_tutorials.exe, specify the same target folder as for the program, i.e. C:\Program Files\GMax - the tutorial files will then be installed into C:\Program Files\GMax\Tutorial

Library, library.exe, specify the same target folder as for the program, i.e. C:\Program Files\GMax - the library files will then be installed into C:\Program Files\GMax\Maps

Trainz Asset Creation Studio, Trainz_Asset_Creation_Studio.zip, it may be necessary to run GMax and complete its registration procedure before installing this item. Extract the contents of the distribution file and run the exe program. The installation routine automatically detects the location where GMax is installed.

The first time GMax runs with a correct registration code, it will request that the video driver be specified. There is a choice of DirectX, OpenGL or HEIDI. I don't know what HEIDI is (a video driver for Linux, maybe?). I chose OpenGL. The normal GMax program window is then opened.

Hope this tells you something new, John

Never seen that error myself, in Gmax or 3DMax, but a quick google revealed that you probably selected a rendering option at the first run that your hardware can't actually handle.

Here's a thread on the TurboSquid forum that deals with possible solutions:

Good luck,
