GLRR 12 gets "Trimmed" for Fall Colors

Klinger

The Chicago CTA guy
Well, this morning while warming up 12 after her boiler wash the last 2 days, we decided it was a good idea to touch up the paint since Fall Colors is right around the corner. Next Boiler wash is not until October, so now was the time.

Took us about 2 hours with 2-3 people working, but she came out pretty nice. She does look quite nice all dolled up. There are some parts we didn't get to (cab and tender hand grabs) because today's crew needed to use them, and we didn't have time to let it dry properly.

can i borrow her for like, 80 years:hehe:

she's adorable! I know she's just a steam engine, but I've always liked her. she's well balanced and proportioned (at least in my eyes). you folks there on the loop take great care of her, and she looks great there. Keep her steaming...or you'll have me to answer to:eek: :hehe: :o

Man is she pretty. Looks really sweet with the shiny black paint and all the green trim!

A fresh coat of paint can hide a multitude of sins...;)

It can't hide everything.

Here is 12 back during "Railstar" days

Note the Branch pipe, its crooked, note Compressor exhaust.....crooked. Note the DIY Angle on the front air line. Note the sanding line that goes just about everywhere except down to the wheel. Note in improper placement of the Mechanical lubucrator.

Do I really need to go on?

Thats the Old 12, the new 12 is well taken care of, she has lots of people that really care about her.

Check along the window trim. That's what I was talking about. It does look nice there. The black shiny part is really awesome though. Who cares about the crooked pipes. :)

John

Ah, those, thats actually painted the same color as the cab interior, since its part of the cab

Crooked pipes matter, not only does it look bad, they don't function properly

The compressor exhaust constantly held water rather then ejecting it, as did the branch pipes, as the water pooled in specific places.
