Getting rid of unwanted assets?

Hello. I would like to do some cleaning out of assets I have downloaded but never use. I'm not worried about keeping anything since I can go back and get the stuff I use since I know what most of it is. I pretty much want to start over without reinstalling TRS06. I know I will loose any maps and thats ok too. I need to start over there too as I'm constantly learning from my mistakes.... Now, if I could only apply that to real life!

Hi MB,

It's easy to delete unwanted downloaded assets. Use CMP to list the assets installed, and highlight the ones you don't want and delete them. I would make a backup first before sending them to the bit bucket though.

Your own content can easily be found under the "My Content" tab.

I agree it would be nice to be able to do this in real life as well.

When you click 'start' go to 'manage content'. This will take you to CMP.

Go into search, locate the items you want to delete, then right click and press 'delete'! simple as that!

Yeah, I've done all of that, and even went into program files and deleted the stuff in the local file. The problem is that everything still shows up in surveyer in the list. Also, in CMP, it wouldn't delete everything. I got trigger happy on the DLS when I first got Trainz, and there is so much I don't need. From the looks of it, I may have to just reinstall. I probably messed something up.

Better if you copied all you downloads to another media, then you know you will have them. Ya can't count on everything to always be in the trainz DLS forever, just ask around! After you copy all, delete the complete download file where you have the game active. Now you should be at a new begining.

Thanks, folks. I did go ahead and reinstall TRS06 and SP1. I must have messed something up by trying to get rid of things without first consulting people in the know. It's all good though. I had so much stuff that trying to select certain objects to delete would have taken forever. Now that I'm going back and getting only the things I know I will use, it's not too bad. I know I can get what I need and can do it without filling my computer to the hilt with stuff I don't need. Anyways, thanks for the help as I am sure I will need to delete things in the future. Sometimes the stuff I get doesn't turn out to be exactly what I was looking for.

Permanently Deleting (bad idea)

In any area in surveyor pages, you can type in the name of the asset, and the asset will jump into selection...I keep a handwritten log book of items that I use all the time (basemap A-Z & Zero-10, dighole 1x1, MB Quad line, MB Tunneltrack dark, MP Wood, UK Stone Tunnel spline...etc...

Then you can leave all the non-used assets in place where they should be, just in case you may need them someday. If you break all the say UK assets, and you go to run a UK route someday...it will have all the content missing.:confused:If I were say to delete an entire UK route, perhaps all it's content is also on a US route, and all the assets on the US route will come up missing, breaking the chain.

I choose to ignore all the un-used stuff...and keep a well documented handwritten log book of everything I use, and everything I change, or do.

Loco's and cars...I simply select the ones I want as "Favorites", then only a few show up in surveyor.

Also I try to keep my downloaded content to a bare minimum of absolutely needed "3rd Party" stuff, and "Built in Content"...who really needs all 27 different road names of every F-7A available on DLS and Third Party sites, when you will only use just a choice few ?

Good points. I am keeping a log, and I have been in the habit of doing so. I'm glad I did because it's made it easier to recollect most of the assets I wanted to keep. It also helps since a lot of the items titles either have a prefix on them which makes finding them confusing, and some are in different languages or are just named after a location. I just basically need to streamline everything. I had quite a mess going. I did loose a few partially finished routes. I know I could have saved them, but again, I needed a fresh start. I'm actually quite enthusiastic about it all, and I feel like now I can get some work (play) done.
