Gaps under rails

WCL

So now ran into another issue, why all of a sudden on some of my routes, start having these gaps under the rails?

What version of Trainz are you using? Trainz Plus has a HD option - have you converted these routes to HD?

From the image it appears to be a spline height issue and not a texture issue. So my first solution would be to use the Smooth Ground Under Selected option in the spline context menu (Surveyor 2.0). There is a similar command somewhere in Surveyor Classic but it has been so long since I used that interface.

It can also be the 'shadow quality' setting in launcher/performance. Any higher than 'medium' and all the gaps under rails will show black throughout the route.

Or, possibly nearby PBR. As a simple test change the nearby grass to a TS19 type such as FR9 (on DLS). I have grown tired of all the black streaks and chasing each one. So I switched to FR9 grass totally. Other nearby PBR elements will put their "bubbles" under the track as well.. Thus a nearby PBR asphalt will cause the streaks.

My guess is that it is either an issue that has to do with pbr, or is just a bug with the game that hasn't been fixed. You may have to go through and fix it manually.

@WCL >>> I see a second roadbed spline under the trackbed spline. You likely just need to edit the spline points in the lower bed spline, or, add a section of that lower bed spline in parallel to fill in the gap

Just raise the height of the ground a little when you see a gap. That way the track remains level.

So replace the PBR stuff near tracks with non-PBR stuff. I believe PBR has a range of about 9 feet.

Guys, you're all reading the image incorrectly. ;)

There is a second roadbed spline UNDER the track and ballast spline. The gapped section does not have the roadbed spline set correctly.
@WCL needs to pull the roadbed spline points away from the junction and rebuild that small section to close up the gap.

I have already pointed this out in post #8 🤙

I don't follow you Rico, why would there be another roadbed under the track and ballast ?
You can plainly see it in the screenshot, @JimDep.

Track>Ballast bed > separate roadbed spline > Grid terrain with grass texture. None of those items has PBR texturing as other have noted. :)

It's a roadbed spline method started (I think) by the FMA Trainz group, and maybe Spain Trainz Rutas many years ago.

It allows for steep and tall roadbed slopes that look uniform along any raised trackwork.

Some other creators have made them in more recent times, i.e brickcourt.

The roadbed in the screenshot looks like one of brickcourts.

Some U.S. Trainz routes use this method, Baxter Pass, some of dangavels routes, Darjeeling.

Baxter is a good example. You can see the trackwork in my Baxter rework video, here >

Thanks, I remember using that extended road bed on my Colorado route many years ago. I don't see WLC using that in his pic, though........it looks like normal track with ballast to me.
There was some road bed with no rails on it by FMA that I used also for abandoned sidings and spurs. Nice looking route, btw.

Images not showing today, but I agree with Ricomon35. There is definitely a second ballast or gravel bed underneath which has a gap. I don't know why no one else sees it. You can see how it stops and starts, forming the gap.

Ok, I see it. I thought that was just using a texture for the ballasting, but......upon closer examination....
