Galvanized Steel coil

Any input as to the best rolling stock to use with this commodity?

I have some flat beds that i set up for them but they will only take one. I cant find a car that is set up for this on the DLS.

Thanks

I don't use either the built in waybill or LARS operating schemes, so I cannot guarantee that they will work, but in the US, prototype railroads typically use two types of cars for steel coils: gondolas (usually covered, though I don't know if there are yet any covered gondolas available), or coil cars, and there are a quantity of these on the DLS. Search for "coilcar". In real life, in the US, coils are typically 25 to 40 thousand pounds, and a coil steel car will haul two, three or four of them.

I had looked at the ones on the DLS. There are some covered ones but i cant seem to get those to load. They would not accept steel coils. Although i might not have had them set up for "galvanized" steel coil like my industry is putting out. ill have to try and test that again.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi,

They are not available, I guess I never made them available before as there was no call for them, I could check with Auran to make sure that it would be ok to release them and upload to the DLS later tonight.

Hi cbntmn --

Most interactive freight cars can be configured to carry most types of loads, see here:

http://www.worldoftrainz.com/Pages/Tutorials_TRS2004/LARS-ProtoLARS-TutTRS.htm

None of these cars was originally configured to carry the loads shown:

Some really useful freight cars are kuids:

95761:15150
32246:15047
46075:15900
124017:5006

Specifically for carrying steel coil, kuid 92263:16102:

The last freight car, together with other steel and plate carrying cars, is used in this session, kuid 69871:12057

Thanks Phil.

Ill take a look at those and set them up. I set up some regular flat cars but they would only take one roll at a time. That would be one long train.

The covered ones are on the DLS and ill try and configure them correctly.

Ill let you know how it turns out.

Well as usual im confused....

Phil the last car you show with the half cover on it kuid 69871:12057 does not have the green ck mark on the picture in the DLS to say that it works with industry and makes it interactive. I usually shy away from those because i thought they didnt work.

When i take on that does not work in Surveyor and click properties on it the screen to change what it will carry is not there. Can i do something different to make it work? I thought it was the creater of the car that had to make it work.

The check mark is set up in the config by allowing the icon image (the check mark) to be seen. Not every creator does this so some cars are interactive even though there is no check mark.

Best way to tell is from accessing DLS through your browser is choose the Download Page link. There not only can you download the CDP through FTP, it should list any dependencies including products it can use. Don't know if there is a CMP way to do this, I'm still figuring that program out.

Don't be put off by the lack of check marks.

The kuid for the coil car is 92263:16102; for the session that uses it, kuid 69871:12057

Now the Catch22:
1. You will only see the animation when it loads or unloads.
2. There are no industry interactive tracks that will load or unload the product it is configured to carry (well, with the exception of "Multiple Industry New", which most people think needs a PhD in rocked science to configure).

BUT, my LARS and ProtoLARS do provide coil products that the coil car will carry, provided the car is configured in the way described in the tutorial.

Now, I think that you may have downloaded either "IndustRail 1a" or "RiversideRailroadCo"? If you have then you have all the assets needed by "YardSwitchingCo" and you can run the session with kuid 69871:12057 with minimal additional downloads.

That session will also demonstrate the oversize plate car - it's worth it just to see the animation as it loads and unloads.

Unloaded:

Plate bearing arms open and the oversize plate loads:

Then rotates:

Phil,

thats really a cool animation. Ill try that out and try to see if the coil cars will work on my layout. Basically ive taken Neils Ultramegaroute and im conforming it to how i want it.

thanks

A Freudian slip !~! Because, yes, to you I know it "rocks".

Do you have a reference to the tutorial to set it up? It might be useful for cbntmn

Hi Phil,

Yeah of course... :hehe:

Then follow the links to the Tutorials in the Main Menu... :)

Thanks guys. Im reading both, about Lars/protolars and MIN.

I really like the Protolars set up. It seems much easier to set up than the way that comes with the game. I think i will start replacing some of the industry on the layout i am using.

I have on "off subject" question. In surveyor is there a way to make the menu larger so i can see it better? I saw in the MIN that it seems you can hit properties on the production menu to resize it.

i actually like those better. If you get a chance let me know the kuid number after its set up and ill change mine out.
