Future of TS12

I am disturbed by the continual removal of assets to the point that my choice of assets to build and expand routes is now getting very limited! Why is this? If the process continues then the game may become unworkable.
I am sure that there are many pensioners out there, like me, who may not be able to upgrade to TANE. does this then leave us with nowhere to go and nothing to do. That will be a disaster from my point of view. Can anyone enlighten me.
Thanks Ron

It may seem unfair and as though the franchise isn't favour you. But you can't deny that we must move forward. T:ANE is the future. T:ANE is now. T:ANE is now the vehicle with which we move and support and provide for and love. Sadly, there will always be those without newer machine, being left behind, but progression and new ideas for the young and next generation are undeniably more important than your cause. This applies to all things in life and accepting it is the first stage.

I hope this helps you Ron as I am worried about you. Sitting there. But you are not alone, T:ANE is not yet a finished product and those users with their young faces and new lingo waltzing in here living the high life are actually not as privileged as you were in your prime. So not worry you.

Hi Ron,
I'm a pensioner too, but in regard to your query, I haven't actually seen any removal of assets for TS12 (as yet). If any have been removed, then I hope they were the faulty ones.

I tend to use both TS12 and T:ANE programs quite regularly, and if there is a particular asset I want for T:ANE that is not listed, I'll look in Content Manager in TS12 and upload them into T:ANE. Now this doesn't mean that I've lost it in TS12, because it is now available for me in both programs.

I believe that once N3V have sorted out the teething problems with T:ANE and it is running well, then they may look at any sub-standard or faulty assets from the past and 'turf' them. But I haven't noticed any drop off in any of my routes. The last time I looked I still had access to over 300,000 assets, which is enough to build most routes with.

There are heaps of people who still prefer to use the older programs, but as time goes on, it may be wiser to look to the better and more up to date program.
I've always enjoyed TS12 because it runs very smoothly for me, but I'm enjoying T:ANE more because the textures and models seem to be more realistic.

Maybe one of the N3V team may enlighten you more about the future.
Cheers,

Ron,

I too have not seen any drop off in TS12 content. In fact most people are making content at TS12 SP1 HF4 version-level because that is compatible with T:ANE as well.

What version are you running?, This is the build version number that appears on the right side of the launcher when you. The current build is 61388, which is TS12 SP1 and the Content Manager build number is 3.7 for any assets built for that version. If you have a lower version, you can't download any of the newer content.

When TS12 becomes unsupported, all TS12 uploads to the DLS will be ignored and rejected, and future SP's will be discontinued ... that is all that happens when a version becomes unsupported

However TS12 without the service pack will still continue to run even if N3V goes under. People still use Flight sim although its been unsupported for some time now. The older content will still be available on the DLS and there are alturnatives to the DLS, I don't see any issues.

TS12 with the SP1 will continue to run ... however without N3V, the DLS will show: access "404 denied"

Without N3V ... the DLS will be non-exeistant: "blank page"

Big Deal.

You can do just fine without the DLS if you have to. Plenty of people make content and host it on places other than the DLS. If you've been using TS2 for awhile you should have plenty of content to keep you busy.

Your "If or when N3V goes under" meme is getting a bit tiresome. Nothing lasts forever.

Good Morning Ron
We have not been removing any content from the DLS, nor do we ever remove content unless it has been uploaded without permission of the original creator, or breaks the COC in some way.

You might find that some assets get updated by the original creator to newer versions. If this is the case, you can still download the original version by right clicking on the asset in Content Manager, then click on 'view asset versions'. Now select the last version that was available for your version of Trainz, then right click on it and click on 'download this version' (or something to that effect). Note, this feature is only available in TS12 SP1.

Regards

There is a problem with that though Zec in that ts12 content manager keeps saying that assets are out of date and require updating but when you update them they are unusable due to being version 3.8 or above how do we get round this problem surely ts12 content manager should not allow assets to be downloaded at version 3.8 or above or have I in my old age got this wrong ?

...do you think 10 Terabytes of storage capacity would be enough to download the entire DLS?

I'm just kidding... I recently was able to fix a "broken" RAID controlled storage server, and the idea hit me...

Instead of making a new thread and asking... when did N3V end Multi player for TS12 SP1 HF4? for several months I've never been able to run Mojave or UMR, even the MP Game N3V normally has running isn't active anymore, and something completely different, Square Enix is ending PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 support on games from March 2016. Sony is also terminating PlayStation 2 Support in March 2016, who would of thought PS2 was still active even though it's been out since 2001, lol

Cheers.

The future of TS12 (for me) depends very much on what N3V pull off with the SP1 TANE patch. If TANE becomes reasonably usual (for my circumstances) then there is little point in staying with TS12. However if I still find there are major issues (especially hardware overload) then there is little option but to keep plodding away in TS12 or even TS2010, the latter has so much built in content conceivably you could build a pretty good selection of routes without going near the DLS.
