For Auran: Latest Route/Layout Forum?!

ish6

Since 2001
Hi Auran,

Sometimes it's difficult to fine what new routes / layouts are at the DLS, either new or old! The real world slashes into this great hobby we call trainz, and many of us don't have the time to keep up with the current events that our community posts, so my suggestion is this:

A forum specifically for people to announce their new routes/layouts, or even old routes that keeps on growing like Phil's Industrial Rails, etc!!

A forum similar to the freeware contents, but for routes and layouts only!! Such a forum should be in the workshop category! Actually i am surprise that we don't have such a forum, thinking of it, since the end result of all this is to create and finish and announce our layouts:) !

Anyhow, I hope you take this suggestion into consideration! Thanks for readying!!!

I think this is a great idea but will they create this forum, maybe not.

It would be a good edition though...:o

Cheers,
Adam

It would need to be fairly vigorously moderated to avoid some of the more, ahem, "juvenile" activity that seems rife in some other parts of this board.

Postings limited to an announcement, verified by presence of the route on the DLS and/or external download sites. Possibly also "read only" apart from the route author who can add to the thread as necessary?

Great points!!! :D

I think It's a great idea. I'm presently constructing a very large route using Transdem, and I sometimes wonder if it's size could discourage potential downloaders.

Maybe this thread could be a starter for such a forum. If it catches on, it might encourage Auran to create another sub forum.

Good idea, Joe

Add me to the list who think it's a great idea. One of the few things that disappoints me about Trainz is the small selection of US routes.

They could make the "Route Announcement" forum a sub-forum of the Freeware forum, keeping it all nice and tidy. :)

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! :D

I think a subsection like this will be a great help in your decision if you would like to download a particular route or not. More information a these routes certainly won't hurt!

There are those in the forum who really are dedicated to their routes, for example BOAT has created a subway route with a few sessions, including an automatic session where you just sit back and watch ... but his thread just get lost unless it gets bumped in the freeware forum .... A forum dedicated only for routes would make it easier and faster to see what's up to date!

Yes, I can see an advantage in this one rather than wondering what the names or routes are, etc. With a bit of common sense a good idea

There's an interesting issue being discussed here, and I was wondering if anyone would bring up the possibility of the new browser in Trainz Simulator 2009 as a solution.

Google has introduced us to (ok, made it much easier to) find information on the Internet. With keywords and tags on content, in theory the new TS2009 browser will be everyone's answer to finding out all they need to know about the subject matter they are searching for.

Add to that Top 10 downloads, Latest releases etc and there will be plenty of ways of discovering new content.

Of course this all works better with people creating and uploading the web page content and then others tagging various download items with alternate search options. If this all happens, then your days of having difficulty finding content will be over.

That's an interesting idea, Tony, and one I'd certainly look into further - the idea of an in-game searchable "catalog" of sorts of available routes, possibly with the ability to download the route right there in Trainz and hop right into it.

The idea of making it community-taggable would probably go a long way towards making routes easier to find.

Hi Tony,

Of course, having such information in a browser within the game, if I am understandingly you correctly, would solve many of these issues, but mostly important it will make it easier to find valuable information on routes and sessions.

Also, I feel that those who create layouts / routes will be motivated to describe their creations in detail then just releasing a layout now that they would have a staging area to show to everyone that uses trainz what they have created.

However, having a forum dedicated to the same subject is needed, as many might not be prompt to start trainz. For example, I create contents (in TR04) and I don’t even bother launching TR06 unless to work on my yearlong route. So in other words a Route Forum should be implemented as well in the forums, and moderate very closely!

Well, thank you very much for readying and taken my suggestion into consideration. I am aware that sometimes Auran takes a long time in doing things but hold and behold they do get back to their customers sooner or later….

To all it’s good to be patience!!

Hmm.
While I admire you taking the opportunity to spread the word on the TRS2009 browser every chance you get :hehe:, I think people were talking about how useful it would be to have this sub-forum.

It would take 5 minutes to set up a sub-forum, and set all the relevant permissions, but I guess that you're not going to.

Oh well.

Not trying to be rude, but how long are you supposed to have your cynical hat off for?

I don't think you're being rude mate.
I like people who say what they think.

It was until the end of June, which I did manage. :hehe::D:D

I don't think I was being cynical just now though.
It's clear Tony wasn't exactly talking about the same thing as us in this thread, and although what he suggested is a good idea, it doesn't mean that a sub-forum for routes isn't still a good idea.
Seeing as he didn't mention a sub-forum while he was in this thread, I can only conclude that his presence in this thread was solely to promote TRS2009's wonderful browser capabilities. :p

Am I wrong?
