Florida Trainzers Check in here!!!!

.................
I had this going in the "old" forum, so here we go again. Any of you florida guys, drop in here, maybe we could get together and do some railfanning or something.....

I'm in Tampa.

Mike

You're not even the only trainz person in Palm Beach County. I probably drive by your house on the way to work each day.

It was at the Denny's on Hypoluxo and US1 where I decide to create the FECRS. Check out the new FEC SD70M-2s that SPORBUST just created for trainz.

If you are an FEC fan, I'll be glad to have you join me on one of trips inside the larger yards.

Richard

Nice Florida Live Steamer layout in Largo. I am part of the group over here on the east coast.

I've been to the FGC railroad museum. Its too bad that they dont have the finds to fix thier steam engine though... Its a really nice engine... (I hate hurricanes:mad:). I used to be part of the model railroader's club at the south florida fair grounds, but school and swimming (and trainz:rolleyes:) took over...

I've recently moved here though, 4 months ago ...

Hey what type of training ... ?

Ish:)

Choo Choo Training.

New Smyrna Beach is where the Florida East Coast Railway trains its employees.

Richard

BTW: Really good Bar-B-Q place in Edgewater just south of the FEC yard. Ryans buffet style in South Daytona/Port Orange area is also a frequent stop.

You're not that far away at all.

You are probably around FEC mile marker 282.

I work in West Palm Beach which is about MP 300

I live in Boynton Beach near MP 311.

BTW: Fellow Florida Trainzers, check out Ben's new NASA Solid Rocket Booster cars available now at the Download Station.

These cars are rare, but are a common site on the NASA Railroad at Kennedy Space Center.

Great Job!

Cool ... thanks for the info Richard ...
Hey, since you live around these parks do you have any picture of industries that rolling stocks might use to haul things away ... Here in daytona, there's a small cemet factory that uses train -- not sure if they're active ...

Ish:)

Hi Richard:

Yup, FEC tracks go right thru Tequesta. Small lift bridge. Originally 2 track but one set of rails was removed years ago. I may model it and the one in Stuart one day. There is a passing siding just north of us. Was siting at the local hot dog joint (Dune Dog Drive Inn ---good grub) and a short train went past going north. Little while later the engine alone came back and stopped. The fireman (well someone) got out of the loco, walked over, and got a take out order. Thought this was odd but after a minute realized they know the schedual (and real trainzers gotta eat too). This has happened at least 3 times I can remember.

Only industry here is a Rinker cement plant (10 to 20 cars a week).

Hey Ben:

Just north of you is the passing track section known as Camp Murphy that cuts through Johnathan Dickenson State Park.

To create the Trainz FEC2020 route, I organized a library of FEC track charts and aerial photos of the entire mainline and branch lines.

I have this entire library on CD.

If any FEC fan would like a copy, just email me a mailing address.

It will be my time and my dime.

Richard

Hi Richard:

Not only does the FEC go thru the park, it goes within 50 to 100 yds of the United States Coast Guard Loran C Station (which is actually within JD Park toward the northers boundary). I was stationed there twice during my 10 years in the USCG.

Ben

Next time you are on Jeopardy and the catagory is the FEC; the tightest curve on the FEC mainline is on the north end of the Stuart bridge (MP 261).

I experienced it in the cab of Rock Train #208 (3 locomotives and 138 cars). It's a wheel squealer!

That curve takes a beating. A while back the line was blocked for a couple of days when the outer rail could no longer hold the gauge, and several ortner hoppers were put on their side.

BTW: Railway Age Magazine just named the Florida East Coast Railway the Regional Railroad of The Year.
