Flange Squeal?

Hey everyone. Have you ever been on a subway and when it takes a tight corner.

You'll hear a loud squealing sound coming from the wheels. Its called a Flange.

I searched it up in the DLS as flange. I found it under sounds.

But what i want to do is put it on in a subway car. So when ever its making a tight turn. It will make the sound. How can i do that?

Not sure you can. It's a map object. All you can do is to place one at every location where you want flange squeal and then you end up with an unending cacophony!

Someone needs to create some way of placing it in each vehicle. Way beyond me.

Cheers

Which version of TRS are you using?

If you are using 2006, you can attach this sound to the 'track' itself (preferably with a new kuid so that you can choose a version without the sound for a straight line, and one with for a curved line). Someone else will have to explain the process, as I'm not sure how it works.

Unfortunately, you can't attach the sound to a locomotive/rolling stock item, as TRS wouldn't know when to play the sound.

If you are using TRS04, then I don't believe the custom track sound feature was implemented then.

Odd, I get flange sounds as default in TRS2004.

Erm, is this the 'clickety clack' sound, or an actual squeal/screech?

TRS04, last I heard, never had an actual flange squeal sound that could be placed by the user on selective bends (You really don't want it on a 200m radius curve travelling at 10KMH...). By placed, I mean selecting a different version of the track that has the sound, and replacing that section of spline.

Would it be possible to attach a flange sound to a locomotive and have the sound triggered by a trigger located at the curve of interest. The radius of the trigger could be adjusted to the curve. A script could be written to trigger the sound for the curves of interest.

Well i know of a flange thing where you install and it works automaticly for loco's...Try searching Natvander or davido( i know its one of them who made it) and install the flange squeal asset...Thats the one i use and it works good.

Dunno, but my rolling stock definately give off that steely squeal when rounding a curve. It could have been built-into the cars themselves as a bogey attachment.

Well. I actually have reacently downloaded the steel flange by Natvander. But its always going off. And dosnt go off when its suposed to.

The flange squeal I uploaded is attached to a specific track. You lay that track on a particular curve and you get flange squeal on that curve (or more specifically on that stretch of track). If it always sounds, then you've layed too much of that track.

No, that sound you have in 04 is the same for any locomotive/train especially on tight turns, I remember it.
What is mentioned here is a seperate sound that is attached to a track. You could take 3 copies of the same track and give each a different sound effect. Not enough of a train expert to know what the different sounds could be used for but you could make a road section for cars with squealing tires for fast turns.:)

Huh, my built-in flange squeal just sounds like a Black & Decker drill. A useful sound but not in relation to railroading! :hehe:

Thanks for the info. I don't need that if it's built-in then.

The Berlin U-Bahn wagons have flange squeal, whenever they go on curves you hear the typical skreeeskreeeeeeksreekskreeeeeeeeeeeskreeeek of the flanges. I don't know how its done though.

Sorry for replying back so late. I had computer problems. But I have the Berlin U-Bahn subway car. I did noticed that it does have a flange sound. I always wondered how they got the sound onto the car.

The mine cars in the default Narrowgauge railway in 06 never fail to give a a pleasing squeal while rounding curves. Can't say the same for any other route/rolling stock/locomotives. Can someone teach us how to "copy and paste" this into other bogies? It would be really nice.
