Fixed track

I stumbled across a lot of fixed tracks (FT) that I didn't know existed in my new Trainz 2010 EE, due to early on after installing from the box, having somewhere along the line inadvertently turned the search filters on, which blocked a lot of stuff from being seen in the content lists.

But I accidently clicked it off yesterday and suddenly a whole load of stuff appeared in my objects, etc.

With spline track, when merging two tracks, say for a WYE, it automatically inserts a signal switch which can be clicked (green or red arrow) that sends the train in that direction.

Now that I know I have all this FT, how does one have a signal to point a train to go right or left, for instance at a WYE? That is, IF a wye can be built with FT.

Thought I'd use some FT in building a small route but how does one insert a switch with FT to send a train down a spur?

Enjoying Trainz.

I imagine that you could build an entire route using 80% FT track ... much like HO Snap Track.

I use FT track all the time as a curve track, spline point, guide, laying single track spline points, and sliding them over top of the FT track spline points, then I slide thye FT track curves completely out of the way.

You can make a switch using single track, that is joined to FT Track ... I don't belive that junctions can be made directly using FT Track ?

I believe that you can place a trackmarker on FT Track, and name the trackmarker , and drive via that named trackmark.

Per your suggestion, will use FT, plus use FT like a template guide to lay spline track, and use trackmarkers of FT like a junction. Thanks.

Hi Guys, I see you are using TS10, no problem.

Be aware that the built in Auran fixed track junctions are now broken in TS12, they are on the bug list to be fixed, but they should still work in TS10.

well, far as i remember fixed track junctions work ok, but the signal script since 09 (possibly before) has been made to ignore them - so lineside signals do not recognize them as junctions and therefore do not show correct diverging aspects.

Thanks John, couldn't remember if they were broken in TS10, I sent in a help desk request, as it broke all my aircraft taxiway turnouts. :'(

It would be a shame to spend a lot of time setting up a map with fixed track then to find the junctions do not work.

Yes, and one more thing I recall. Do you know the straighten tool in "track-building" container? Fixed track does not allow straighting track in between 2 vertices in CCP. So you have to build 3 or 4 vertex attachments in a straight line before curve starts in order to imitate "straight" track segment before the curve.
