Fixed the track, saved it in Surveyor ...

Hello Everyone!

I don't do much Surveyor work, so I'm not sure on this ....

I downloaded much of a Layout which had a couple of track derailment problems.

I fixed the tracks and saved it with the default route's name.

Now, as I continue to download additional dependencies for this route, will they continue to be added to this default-named Surveyor session even with the fixed track?

Also, I have just found another problem at a station. Can I continue to fix things in this default-named session, yet still be able to add dependencies to it?

Thanks for any help!

Fixing track or any other feature of a layout should not prevent you from saving as default and then making any other change to the layout that you wish.
Sometimes it's best if you take a copy of the layout and do all the changes to the copy so that if you make a huge mistake you can always start again with a fresh copy. Saving with a different name after is a good idea as well.

Cheers
Russell.

I am no expert but I think if you change (fix) something the KUID changes to yours and this would mess with automaticaly downloading dependencies to it.

You download a route and all the assets are listed in that routes config. When you alter anything it will save as a custom map under your own kuid. The original will not be touched. All the assets of the original will remain with your altered version so will download all assets in the same manner as the original. Assets are not part of a route they are only referenced in the config of that route. If you alter a map and use the delete missing objects then you will not have the original asset list so some downloads will be missing.

Hi. When I opened up Surveyor today, it looks like this...

Route's Name (clone)
Route's Name (clone session)

Then there is also the original,

Route's Name (original)
Route's Name (original) (clone session)

This is where I get confused...
Both the "originals" still have the bad tracks...

Both the "clones" show my fixes, and the locos I used to test the track...

I'm guessing that Trainz made those clones when I fixed the tracks? I don't remember doing that!

Are the clone sessions, like someone said, now under my own KUID number and will they or won't they pick up additional dependencies?

If not, I guess it would be wisest to keep adding dependecies into the original layout and wait until finished to fix the tracks (again)!

All is well. I am Relaxed and Calm! Bob P.

Forget the original, even if you add a train it will save as a custom map under your own kuid. Trainz will not let you alter someone elses route under their kuid number. Once you alter anything it becomes yours and will appear in surveyor with a small c nect to it. This informs you that it is a custom route under your kuid number. The route will work and do everthing the original would have done including all downloads. You could test this by moving the local folder out of trainz and place an empty local folder in its place. Now select your map in CMP and click on download and you will find all assets will start to download.

Hello people again...

I did an experiment. I downloaded a billboard which is a dependency of the original route, which had not yet been downloaded. (using the Trainz Download Helper, in Trainz 2004 SP4)

The billboard showed up in the original route, and the clone session attached directly to it.

It did not show up in the the clone route it had created when I fixed the track. It did not show up in the clone session attached to the clone route.

The only way I could get it to show up in the recently created clones was to make a slight change in the original's clone, and save it.

This made the billboard show up in the two clone versions.

But my track fix was gone, and the two locos were gone in all the four.

So, I am guessing that I'd better do all of my dependency downloads first, before fixing things. !

( Stagecoach, I think I understand what you have said about the CMP in 2006... in other words, I could right click on my "fixed track" route, and have it download dependencies). I am a little dull witted in this stuff as of now. I am not able to figure how to do it in 2004.:o

So, for a while, I'll keep downloading stuff into the original route! Bob P.

As you are using 2004 I would suggest you get trainz objectz from Tafweb. This can check all your 04 downloads and will check maps and download missing assets that are on the DLS. All assets a map uses is in the maps config file.
