Fix the forum search.

Whos on First?
Please fix the forum search. Ever since the forum upgrade I have had difficulties doing some searches. For example tonite I wanted to search for
animation-loop-speed
But I cannot because it says
The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search:
"animation-loop-speed"

I used to be able to put quotation marks around what I wanted to search for and it would be included.
But not any more, if I try it just gives me the same error as above.
The main problem is that some word needed to make searches more meaning full to me are not included because of they are "commons words".
Some words that are "common" on other forums are mostly searched for here to fix things.

That feature of the vBulletin search function that prevents searching for terms that are common, etc. is indeed annoying. As a part of the vBulletin search function, however, I am not sure if N3V has the ability to fix this (or if they would if they could).

What does need fixing is the search function's inability to find user's posts from sometime in 2010 to sometime in January 2012. I posted about this recently with this thread, but it has sunken down into the murky waters of inactive threads.

Regards,

Zachary.

It also may have mistaken the hyphens as minus signs, to not to look for words after the hyphens.
Search for the first two words in quotes, and their should be several results.

The first poster is right, search is meant to help, NOT hinder. This must be one of the most unfriendly searches search on a forum.

[what you are looking for] site:http://forums.auran.com

Forget the forum search and use Google.

Enter this into google to find everything on the forum that the build-in forum search does not find for you:
[what you are looking for] site:http://forums.auran.com
... and ofcourse replace [what you are looking for] by... well... what you are looking for without the brackets.

Problem solved.

This is something that does not make sense.
A very good game trainz with stacks of support for NV3 , but NV3 seems to be a planet afar off and not reading these and similar threads and answering or helping to resolve the forum use problems . Who and where are the guys that must help...?

oknotsen is correct; the proper use of Google will satisfy anyone trying to search these forums.

You can add Google search on a vBulletin forum, just looked it up, however it would appear to entail N3V joining Googles Adsense and it's probably not free either.
I use a couple of other vBulletin forums and the search is pretty abysmal on them as well.

It may be that the problem with the search is one vBulletin need to sort out not N3V.

Even if Google is better at searching the forum than the forum's own search function, that's no excuse for the forum search function not finding user's posts from sometime in 2010 to January 2012. N3V should either fix this or, if they can't, let us know that they can't.
