First Class Ticket and Download Limits

Don Frey
I recently purchased a 1-year first class ticket. I have TRS 2006 installed on 2 computers, using 2 DIFFERENT copies of the software (one the 5-CD version and the other the DVD version). I've registered both installations, and both serial numbers show up in my profile. Today, while trying to get some additional content, I was informed that I had exceeded the 100MB limit for downloading for the day. Funny, I thought the first class ticket gave unlimited download capabilities! :(

Can anyone tell me what's wrong?

Thanks,
Don

Probably nothing at your end, every now and then the servers seem to get confused, and CMP starts believing that you don't have a FCT when you do.

Sometimes just quitting CMP and restarting it is enough, but more often it's a matter of waiting 10 minutes and restarting CMP.

And yes, a FCT does, normally, remove the daily limit.

First Class Tickets and Download Limits

John,
Yes, I activated the ticket right away, which was several days ago. I had been able to download a significant amount of updates since acquiring the ticket, so I didn't think there was any limit. As the previous poster noted, maybe it was just a temporary server confusion. I simply wanted to make sure that there was not, in fact, some type of daily limit in place of which I was unaware.

In my opinion, based upon other comments regarding downloads, subscriptions, etc., it would seem to me that Auran has a problem with servers and bandwidth. While I recognize that most of the Trainz community is composed of volunteers, quite possibly including those at Auran, if you charge for premium (or any) service, when people pay you for that service, you have both a legal and moral obligation to deliver, and to respond to problems promptly. If you are unable or unwilling to do that, you shouldn't charge for the service.

I appreciate the skills and dedication of everyone who supports this simulation, and thank you all for taking the time to share with others.

Best regards,
Don

Don,
First check that you have both TRS2006 serial numbers activated in your profile.
Second, you will have problems downloading if you are trying to alternate between versions of 06. (particularly if both versions of 06 are on the same PC).
Even if you click on the right CMP icon that you want to download too, CMP will default to the last version of 06 that you where running and open CMP (& download too) that version. (that version has the last/latest registry entrances).
Often when you switch between the two & CMP goes off to see if you have a licensed serial number/user ID that registered, it will come back that it recognizes that your serial number/user ID is OK, but won't recognize that you have a 1st class ticket...

It will then set CMP so you have a 100 mb daily limit. (hasn't for some reason recognized that you have a 1st class ticket). Most of the time if you close down CMP, run the version of 06 that you want to download too, then close that and then re-open CMP "often that fixes the problem". (at least until you want to download into your other version of 06).

Initially, if you are not to sure which version the downloads are going too, then keep a record of the sizes of both TRS2006 directories. Once you've finished downloading, just re-check the directories sizes again and that way you will know for sure which version of Trainz the downloads went into)...

I don't profess to know the reasons why (or the answers). I have spent "weeks" trying to figure it out. When you download to one version & then try and download to the other version, CMP/DLS often thinks it still downloading to the last version it was actually downloading into.

I know this sounds abit crazy, (& I haven't taken my medication this morning yet) :hehe: but it's like CMP/DLS remembers what you have downloaded into one version of 06, then remembers that if you stopped part way through a download, then open CMP in the other version of 06, then CMP/DLS thinks it still downloading to the original 06 version. (it even bring up what you where trying to download into the version where the download was interrupted)... particularly if you where using; "add to cart"

I know this doesn't make all that much sense, but carry on trying to downloaded into both and you will soon see what I mean. I came to the conclusion that CMP in 2006 has a few strange quirks. Even with these strange quirks, CMP 06 never put me off TRS2006. (best full version of Trainz's until TS2010 came out, in my personal opinion). Good luck.
Cheers, Mac...

Mac, and all,
I understand the complexity if I were to have both installations of TRS 2006 on the same computer. However, I have them on 2 different computers, so there's no possibility of the hard drives being confused. And, both serial numbers show up correctly in my profile at Planet Auran. So, I'm not sure what else I can do to make sure both installations are registered correctly. Since one installation was from the 5-CD package and the other was from the DVD package, they have different build numbers as well. The 5-CD version has been upgraded with SP1 and, having followed the detailed installation instructions, seems to have been updated correctly. It is my understanding the the DVD version did not require SP1.

I don't want to make too big a deal out of this. My main concern was that somehow the access which I believed I purchased with the first class ticket was not being honored. I wanted to make sure it wasn't because of some misunderstanding on my part.

For what it's worth, yesterday I was able to obtain a significant amount of updated content (in the neighborhood of 2 GB) without any limitations. So, maybe this was all just a temporary server glitch. Nonetheless, People need to be aware that this happens.

Best regards,
Don
