Finding objects

Hello all,

After downloading some routes I want to build my own route.
When I am doing this I have one big problem.
How to find certain objects easy? I see listst of objects but I want to see them visually. It is very difficult to find an object when you have to inspect them one by one to find the right one.
Is there a way to see mutiple objects in pictures? If not I would recommend Auran to make this possible in a next version.
Or is there an external tool?

Greetings,
Alex

hi Alex,
If you are using 2004, TrainzObjectz is a very good utility used to see the contents of your world folder, it can show you the 'latest downloaded' so you will have a better idea as to what and where assets are.
In 2006, CMP does almost the same thing, 'date modified' will show you the latest downloads.
Unfortunately, neither one will give you a printout.
Check the utility page of my site for a lick to TrainzObjectz.:)

Thank you for your reply.
However I can't use CMP while I am building a new route.
I need a better way to find an object WHILE I am building a route.
I hope this makes my problem more obvious.

Greetings,
Alex

Assigning keywords to newly installed content is the only reliable way to find what you need. I copied this from a previous thread that may be helpful....

1. In CMP: Make sure you have selected all the assets you want included under the new filter. Use the Edit Keywords to label those assets with your new name. Copy down the filter name (Case insensitive, I think). (One of my problems came from accidentally not matching the spelling of the Surveyor filter with the CMP filter)

2. Still in CMP: Although its not essential, you should also Save the new filter so that you have a filter tab installed for it.

3. In Surveyor: Open the Surveyor filter dialog box by clicking on the funnel button in the top drop-down menu.

In the large text box, enter the name of your new filter as it's spelled in CMP (double check your spelling).

Open the drop down list at the bottom of of the dialog box. Scroll down to the Save item and click it to register the CMP filter name within Surveyor.

4. Still in Surveyor: This is the step that I think you probably missed: When you click the Save item, a textbox will open asking for the filter name. You will probably think, "I just finished doing that!" ... Nope, you just finished entering the CMP filter name. Now you must enter the corresponding Surveyor filter name so that the two are linked.

The Surveyor filter name can be same as the CMP name but it doesn't have to be, which is why this linkage step is necessary. Now here's the trick, whatever name you choose, PRECEDE IT WITH A SEMICOLON (!

Press Save to complete the entry and your all done.

Category Boards

Over time I have compiled a number of "category" boards for use when I am building a scene, etc in Surveyor. Whenever I download new objects or have the time to do so, I placed one of each object on its appropriate board, such as industrial, commercial, trees, vehicles, and so on, adding to the collection of objects already placed and saved there previously. When I am ready to create something in Surveyor I merge one or a number of these boards of objects to the board I am working on. I can scroll over to these boards at any time and look for appropriate objects to place in the scene, then use the "get" function to bring them up in the Surveyor list, ready to be implemented. This saves me time and headaches looking at the tiny print and pics, or lack thereof, in the list. I save these category boards right along with my working boards until I am finished with the particular activity at hand, be it 3 hours or 3 months later. Sometimes I delete the category board(s) and merge them to a more convenient spot when I move around to a different area. You can find many of these collection boards on the DLS created by others, such as the Industrial Building Layout by ish6, kuid:58223:100418. I had originally begun using this method because I am legally blind, but it can be beneficial as well for anyone with normal eyesight, I'm sure. Good luck!
