Figured out my horn problem!!!

I had a thread going a little earlier about how ever since I loaded trainz 04 onto my new vista machine, my sound was all screwed up. Specifically, I couldn't get any kind of horn sound in the cab, and there were large drop-outs depending on the angle you were looking at.

Well, after doing a bunch of searches, it seemed to come down to a problem with my sound card and how it reacts with vista. It was suggested to ensure, first of all, that you had the latest driver, which I thought I did. (problem #1).

Then I saw a post about being able to switch from surround to stereo on your sound card, but I never had that option. (problem #2).

Also, it seems I never properly READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. Duhhhhh (problem #3).

Anyway, after actually reading the readme files for the various driver download options (solution #1), I realized that indeed, I did NOT download the latest driver. Apparantly version 8.2 comes AFTER 8.1 - ie. more recent! Duhhhhhh

All of a sudden, in the sound card console, I had the option to switch to a stereo setup, instead of surround. Made the switch. (Solution #2).

Loaded Trainz again, went into driver, came to a crossing, and blew the hell out of the whistle from INSIDE the cab!!! (Solution #3). WOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Now, to all you folks out there that actually know what you're doing, I know I look like a moron, but if there's a few other morons out there like myself, and this helps anyone else, than maybe it has a purpose!

Thanks for listening to my story.

Well, Neil I told you it was sound-card related. :) I'll have to check if there's anything new for my old Audigy. At the time, SB only had one version available when Vista first came out and I haven't looked since.

I'm glad you got your problem resolved.
