The beleaguered Mass Bay Transit Authority was sited for having poor maintenance schedules and coordination between various groups within the transit system. In addition their contractors for the para-transit operations, called The Ride, are under the watch of the feds as well.

In part this is due to substantial cuts done be the previous governor to the "T" budgets, which resulted in cuts to staff and maintenance while increasing the debt of the agency by saddling the organization with the huge bond debt from the Big Dig project. I'm not going to discuss the politics here, but the governor was a slime!

Anyway it turns out these issues are not just with the MBTA but are shared by other big transit systems as well such as CTA in Chicago.
