Ah, the Lark. Very elegant and subdued two tone gray. Maybe the least photographed named first class train in railroading history, because everything it did happened in the dead of night, which didn't interface well with slow films and flash bulbs. :hehe:

My personal favorite is the Overland, both because it was the train I rode on my first serious rail trip in the early '50s, and also because it followed the most historic route in the US, IMO, (Oakland to Chicago).

My faves are:
ATSF El Capitan (with hi-levels)
ATSF Super Chief
UP City of Denver
WP/D&RGW/CB&Q California Zephyr
CB&Q Denver Zephyr
CB&Q Nebraska Zephyr
D&RGW Royal Gorge
D&RGW Yampa Valley Mail
D&RGW Prospector
Any early Amtrak Era Train such as the San Francisco Zephyr, North Coast Hiawatha and others for the "Rainbow Trains"

Also, JacksonBarno, copying my signature style I see?:hehe:

Yes, I tried a higher res one, but the forums didn't like it, so I went gif style!
Also, back on topic, I don't really like combined trains. They sort of defeat the purpose of having two names, and I like my blue ribbon pullman and first class coach trains seperate thank you:D.

My favorite passenger trains are:

Pre-Amtrak
WAB/N&W Wabash Cannonball
WAB Blue Bird
IC Panama Limited
IC City of New Orleans

Amtrak era
City of New Orleans
Illini/Saluki (Chicago-Carbondale)

My favorite is the Great Northern Empire Builder. I wasn't born back then, but I still think that train is amazing. There must have been nothing like watching a 16-20 car train glide through lush, mountain forests and imposing mountains, or watching it race across the plains on the route. I wish I could go back in time and follow it from Washington to Minnesota.

mine would have to be the southern railroad's cresent limited, because of the locomotives that were built by ALCO.
