Export?

I have been using Trainz 2009 on one computer but now want to change to another PC. I would like to move the saved routes I have made but cannot see how to export them. Can anyone advise please?
Thanks.

Hey John,

I just purchased 2009 myself and I'm still at the beginning of the learning curve. I've used 2004 since 2004 but 2009 folders are used and organized different.

Since your question is 2009 specific you should get a better, quicker answer if you re-post in the TS2009 forum.

If you have done them, open "content" via the launcher screen, search for the routes you would like to export, select the ones you want, Right click > Save to CDP

If you use Ctrl you can select them all at once leaving you one only CDP file to import back into trainz at a later date (when you've swapped PCs)

Phil

It's even easier than that.

1) Save the contents of your Local folder on to removable media or an external drive.

On your new computer where Trainz is now installed:

2) Ensure that all the current service packs are installed if any to ensure that both versions are of the same revision.

3) Start up CM.

4) Choose File. Import Content...

5) Browse for your local folder copied on to your external drive

6) Open it. (You won't see anything; just the root folder.

7) Click OK and go off and do something else.

The process will take quite a long time, depending up on how much data you have. When importing content, let the computer do this exclusively because CM can crash, which will mess up the importing process.

When the importing is complete, Commit the assets.

9) Click in the content view of the assets in CM.

10) Press CTRL+A to select All content.

11) Press CTRL+M to coMmit your content to the database.

12) Again go off and do something else while the process does its thing.

When everything is done, you should have all of your content imported. I suggest running a database repair before launching Trainz. This will ensure that the information is synchronize and indexed properly in the database.

Good luck,

John

Hi, sorry to have taken so long to get back to you. Thanks for your advice. I have exported the data from PC 1 but on the second PC the Content Manager just won't load! I can't see why, I'm using the same disc in both machines.

Hi John,

Do you mean CD, or hard drive? If it's your hard drive, you'll need to reinstall the program because of the way it loads on the system.

1) Move or copy your Local folder, or Userdata folder to another place such as your Desktop.

2) Install Trainz and all the service packs (if necessary), to bring it up-to-date.

3) Launch Content Manager, and Import your data gain.

Also what are your system specs for your new machine? If there are video driver problems, like the card not being able to handle Open/GL, the program will crash.

John

Pure guess here but New PC might equal Win7 which does not have OpenGL drivers so Content manager wont work, have you updated them from the card manufacturer?

It was an opengl problem. Xp told me I had the latest driver for my video card but further investigation revealed that I hadn't! Updating the driver fixed CM and then all is now well:D

Thanks a lot for your advice.

John.
