Expired Sites on Auran Download Station

Hello,

I've been noticing more and more Trainz sites shut down as costs for running a full dedicated forum are costing more. However, the links on the Auran download station for "alternative linking" to the expired site still exists. What I'm trying to point out is that there is content that is uploaded to the DLS, however you cannot directly download it on the DLS server. You need to be re-directed onto a webpage mirror to be able to download the specific content.

A few examples are the following KUIDs:

<kuid:83501:38005>

The two content are listed on the DLS as being hosted onto an alternative webpage availble for you to download the content. However, the content hoster, Trainz Depot, has long since closed down which means that the content is gone from the DLS forever. I was wondering why Auran does not update the links or even replace them as well.

BTW: Does anybody have those two KUIDs?

Yeah, that's a problem! Auran has never been very diligent in DLS housekeeping, and although many have volunteered to assist over the years, the project has only received lip service.

My CMP list both kuid:83501:38003 and kuid:83501:38005. I just download and commited them both without errors. They also show up in a search on the DLS.

Well kuid:83501:38003 is Track_Wood by scara which is a popular choice in many layouts, so if it' not really accessible any more via the DLS, that's a problem.

You would hope that, if authors know their own websites will no longer be available that they would move their content directly onto the DLS.

Yep. Is there any chance that any of you that have the two content can maybe upload it onto a mirror site?

Trainz Depot is still operating, it has changed from a .org to a .net address.

Hello,

On our http://www.trainzdepot.net i hasn´t found the tracks from scara.
But if you looks on the DLS for "German Tracks" you should found them. Use "Add to card" and then, from your card, "Download all" and you should have it (it works for me just the time).

They are on the DLS, despite the fact I couldn't find them with a manual search either. They are hiding here and definitely download via the cart...

There are a number of assets that are hidden at the asset creator's request on the DLS, in TRS2009 put the layout or what ever that uses them in the download folder bit and the DLS will send them forth even though they do not appear on the DLS listing.

I can't help with locating missing stuff, but every known English language site plus many foreign language sites are listed on the Trainz Resources Directory.

I don't think it has anything to do with the cost of running web sites or forums because a large number of Trainz community sites are on free servers. People start the sites in good faith then often forget about them. I find that many sites haven't been updated for years, whilst others are started with a fanfare and remain devoid of content for the rest of their natural lives.

Hi guys
Just a little tip.

Items from EXT sites do actually end up with a copy on the DLS servers. I just tested one that I know the site no longer works, and was able to download it via the FTP link.

What you do is go to another item, and click the 'download page' link. Then copy the FTP download link. Now, replace the kuid on the very end of the link (will look like kuid_NNNNN_NNNNN.cdp, or kuid2_NNNNN_NNNNN_N.cdp), then use this link to download.
