Exactly when in September?

Can someone tell me the actual date that the TRS2004/06 DLS support shuts off in September?

The reason for asking is that I want to update and upload several of my existing creations before the curtain comes down. It would be very handy to know how much time is left so I can try to fit all the work in. I hope it's closer to 30 Sept. than to 1 Sept.

Hi Deane, I dont have the answer to your question but I want to take this occasion to congratulate and thank you for all your creations for the trainz community. With your stuff, you bring life, color and souvenir from past era.

My favorites ones are the ''cows'' because I come from a farmland county. Yours are well modeled and realistic. Hope to see a friesan bull and a hereford female in the future!

Thanks again!

Unfortuntely I get the impression its the first of the month - not the last (and yes - I still think they are making a monumental error but time will tell the tale there).

Even criminals on death row know exactly when they will be executed.

Anyone from Auran reading this? Can you enlighten us with an exact date? It would be appreciated by this '04 criminal.

Me too. And don't bother trying to do anymore swindling. I've seen how awful 09/10 can be, and I INTEND to stay with 06.

Ugh.

Hi All
I've just spoken with the Trainz team, and they have confirmed that support ends on the 1st of September.

This means that we will not be fixing any issues that may arise after September 1st for TRS2006 and older (both for downloading and for uploading), and as such we will not be guaranteeing that they will be able to download/upload.

As such, if you want to upload stuff with a 2.6 build number or lower, you have to do it before that date, or it may not work. You may also find that you will still be able to upload for some time after the 1st. It is simply a case of us not guaranteeing that an unsupported product will continue to operate.

For example, if we make a required security upgrade to the servers, and it blocks (say) TRS2006 from downloading/uploading, then we will not be making any changes to fix this. We would, however, make any changes to ensure that a supported product will still function.

As such, I cannot give you an exact date of when you will be unable to actually upload for unsupported versions. However, your best bet would be to upload before the 1st of September.

Sound like you're planning on it.

It occurs to me to ask if the website access to the DLS will be maintained after September 1? It was designed after all for TRS2004 and earlier, but it is the only way to access everything available on the DLS as CMP and CM do not access everything available and often do not show assets I know to be there.

Hi Zec,

Bump.

I’m still playing Forum catch-up after an almost internet free summer.

Regarding your statement in post #8, could I please ask for some clarification?

I’ve highlighted and underlined in red, the bit that rang an alarm bell.

I see from a recent posting elsewhere that the legacy uploads may just have been stopped. OK, that was expected.

However, I was under the impression that legacy users could continue to download old stuff, under the protective hat of an FCT. Your statement appears to say otherwise.

Does this mean that a purchaser of an FCT for TRS2004 or TRS2006 could be in the position of buying it on one day, and DLS access being cut off the next?

Hi Casper

By mentioning 'downloading', I was referencing either non FCT downloads, or those using TDH/CMP to download. We will not be ensuring compatibility of the DLS with TDH/CMP(TRS2006 version) when/if we make any changes to the DLS.

Those with First Class Ticket subscriptions also come under the above banner, since these editions are no longer supported. However, since you have purchased download station access, you will still have access to a form of downloading. At this time, it would be via the DLS website using the FTP links. This may change to another form in future.

The same applies if you have a supported edition registered. You will have access to the DLS via these editions, as well as via FTP (or what ever method may replace, if a change does occur).

Thanks for your prompt response Zec.:)

I have to confess I don't yet know all of the jargon.

So please correct me if I'm wrong here. In simple terms, if I'm a TRS2004 only, or TRS2006 only user, I can re-new, or first-time buy an FCT and happily download the old stuff for whole time covered by the purchase period?

If so, that is very encouraging.

Cheers

I think he's saying that you will be able to download via FTP as long as you have a First Class Ticket. And if in future the FTP method is closed off, then another method will made available but he's carefully avoided saying what that alternative method will be.

I hope that's right because I just purchased another 1-year FCT.

Thanks Deane.

That sounds good enough to me.

If you're right, then it's off to the store to make a purchase.

I also thought that there were only around 12,000 items for '04 users, until NikkiA kindly put me right a few months ago. The true number is well into six figures!

So the DLS definitely looks good value for money.

My opinion has finally been turned around. (Guess that makes me a rotation tool).

Cheers
Casper
