Engine Refueling

One thing that I don't like about TR2009 (and most likely the old versions as well) is the fact that I never... ever... need to refuel my engines. Why has there been no attempt to have realistic fuel consumption built into Trainz?

On that note, where can I find realistic fueling stations for American Railroads? I have no idea what they even look like.

Some engines are made to be refueled, and some steamers will lose coal from the tender, but these are not the average.

The other day I tried to refuel an engine and took it to the oil refinery! It refueled, but there was no sand... Anyhow, can anybody give a KUI no of a simple loco service station? or make an industry that supplies oil and sand to diesels.. Haven't seen any lately, but I think there are some..

There's a 2-track Diesel Refueling Depot built in to TRS2006, so I'm assuming it's in 09 as well. It looks kind of like 2 Multiple Industries and some small tanks. Alas, I've never had to use it (because of the unrealistic fuel consumption), so I don't know if it has sand or anything. Also, it only works with certain locomotives.

Anyway, I've searched the DLS and you can find plenty of refueling stations by searching "refuel" in the Title. I checked the 04, 06 and 09 boxes just to let you know. However, most of them are from World of Trainz and only work with their refueling locomotives (including the one mentioned above). There's at least one that seems to work on others, but I can't tell because there's no in game pic and it doesn't say what locos it works with.

Upon further inspection, as far as I can tell the WoT locos are the only diesels that refuel, the others don't. If you REALLY want refuel capability you can buy some of their payware at www.worldoftrainz.com. It's good, but other than that I can't think of anything else you can do, aside from making your own refuel program that refits all locos to refuel realistically.

I hope this helps.

Please don't say ONLY ones when talking about this stuff ;)

Diesel loco fuel consumption currently needs to be done via script. It's really a case of having to allow users to choose not to use it, since normally a diesel will be able to run for a good day without refueling, depending on conditions of course.

That said, there is more than 1 script set availible. Eldavo has made one, which also includes startup and shutdown in it (plus associated sounds). RPearson also has one, which is only fuel consumption (but can be turned on and off in game). And of course, there is PhilC's setup.

I myself have a pack of Victorian Railways locos coming which have the script by rpearson incorportated into them as well. And there will be more as I get time. Plus anyone else who wants to use the original script should contact rpearson :)

Okay then, great news on the fuel issue, and the sand issue... but...

Anyone have a list of engines that are freeware and use the refuel script by PhilC and their DLS KUIDs? And tr2009 compatibility is desired....

none.
PhilC's script is closed source, and has only been used on his own payware locos, as far as I know.

As a side note, you can easily apply rpearson's script to any loco that does not already have a script on it. As I said, send him a message to get a copy of it, and you will be able to apply it to a great many locos :)

TPR engine track

If you did not get results on your DLS search, I have some suggestions, based upon my (hard won) experience. Firstly start with a broad search and then refine it. Secondly when you enter a kuid only enter the numbers following the "kuid:" or "kuid2:" as that should get you to it.

I did find the "TPR engine track 20m" on the DLS using "30671:27233:1" and checked the "Kuid" box. I checked every version box and made sure that the category was set to any.

I do like to use this particular "industry" track in small engine terminals for it's ease of use, as you get all of the necessities in one compact package.

I have several 4-4-0 engines that refuel! The "Civil War General, Texas, and Yonah" all refuel with wood at certain wood refueling stations, (I can get KUID's upon request, I think they are "Pencil42's creations), and my "Museum General" will refuel at (at least one of) PhilC's refueling station. (This is because the "Museum General" uses fuel oil instead of wood).

You pull up to PhilC's refuel area and come to a complete stop and the fuel hoses politely "attach" to the tender and top her off! Cool stuff!

Since I created these engines for 2006, I have no clue if they are compatable with 2009. Perhaps someone out there has tested them?

Okay... is the DLS the same as the Content Manager? Should I be using a different program to search and download content?

Hi.
In TRS06 there's a diesel called the SD70. It comes in three liveries: Conrail, Norfolk Southern and Illinois Central. Not sure if it comes in TS09, but check the download station for something like it. Its got completely interactive cab, jump in on Cab Mode in driver and you can move everything, wipers, controls, even shut down/start up the loco.

Also, the DLS is different to the Content Manager. You select what you want to download in the DLS, then when you click download on the item's view screen, it takes you to Content Manager. Here, there's a list on the left hand side (below the advertisements) of any items you have previously downloaded. Find the item you just selected, left click it, then click 'Start', just below the list, to start copying it onto the hard drive. It will then show up in the game.

"May the tractive force be with you!"

I used PhilC's refueling track from the DLS in TS2009 SP1 (Build 38349), but found that while locos will refuel and re-sand at the track, it will empty again as soon as they leave! I know that PhilC's stuff are not yet tested for TS2009.

@Scottling
You'll find the SD70 you've got is a 'demo' of PhilC's locos :)

@crohakon
Try this DLS.
It's the TRS2004 site, but clicking the Download (helper) link will allow you to download via CMP :)

I put that KUID into the DLS search and nothing came up.... where do I get it?

It's a TRS2004 asset. Just put 30671:27233 in the box and select kuid and search. You'll get a 10m and 20m version plus the sand commodity.

If you have 06 or 09 use CMP or CM2 to get it.

The Download Station (DLS) is available from the link at the top of this page. CMP is the Content Manager in TRS2006. TS2009 has CM2.

The engine in question (for my case) is the "Koef 2 rot". Is part of 09, and it has a TPM icon. Now we get to the old point of confusion: The KUID of the fueling station at above posts is a LARS. This engine loads oil at the refinery, and that is not LARS. The effect of loading a commodity and immediately unloading it, I have seen many times and still nobody has said how to overcome this, other than be ready with the X icon and click over the vehicle as soon as it is loaded..before it unloads! It has to be a better way to do it, yes? Plus, hitting the vehicle with the icon is very tricky in 09
