Engine is in danger of overheating......

I've done a bit of searching, and found a few references to this problem a that were posted a couple of years ago. I've never had this happen until the latest hotfix came down the pipe. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem resurface? I've turned off the engine breakdown option in the settings (which for some reason doesn't get remembered by TANE, and has to be reset each time you start the game - but that's another problem altogether), but it doesn't seem to matter. Not sure whether they're related or not anyway.

Any suggestions?

I too have noticed this anytime I'm in notch 6, 7, or 8, since HF2. A bit annoying that the message itself keeps popping up on screen. As for the engines, they seem to operate just fine regardless of message.

Interesting - the ones I've been using, have actually shut down. I don't even know if they'll start back up again, or if they're just useless until the session is re-started.

I've seen this in TS12 (Cab mode only) with some JR content, the CSX SD80MAC to be specific. A couple minutes after shutting down, the locomotive restarted on its own. It adds an extra bit of realism for sure, but it can really get annoying.

Yeah - I guess it has something to do with the engine specs. The thing is, I wasn't even really running the engine very hard. Very gentle accelerations, and a relatively light load. I can't imagine that in the real world, cruising at notch 6 on flat ground would cause your engine to overheat. I've never seen this really come into play until the latest hotfix came around. I wonder if it has created a conflict or some kind of bug. Anyway, I'm setting those locos out to a siding, and grabbing some more reliable ones. haha

It wouldnt happen. The problem is they (N3V) keep fiddling with the internals and cant get things working like they had it in TS12 61388 which was just about the best as far as physics and engine feedback. They cant seem to get the amperage readings correct on anything now. The JR scripts use this info to determine if the motors are being overworked. On top of that, the option for turning off those breakdown features no longer works because they changed something else about how global settings are saved in TANE. I have no interest in changing a ton of code just for them to turn around and pull the rug out again.

Best bet is to just watch your amperage and keep it low. If the motors overheat they will shut down (for 3 minutes iirc). Just treat it like the engine has a problem I guess - which is the the truth with TANE.

haha - thanks for the clarification. I thought I was losing my mind! Hopefully they'll get these little bugs sorted out so TANE will work with the JR scripts. I understand how you wouldn't want to go through all the trouble changing them. Just wanted to say thanks for all your work over the years. Fantastic content! I really appreciate it.

Ahh yes! Overheating fire box...........................maybe you drop load tooo quick?

Appreciate all the work you have done. The sad thing about the current situation, is that all my JR locos now are useless because they cannot take any real load. How hard would it be to read a parameter from the engine config file and skip the engine breakdown code?

Thanks
