? End is approaching for Countrylink (& country NSW trains)

YET AGAIN ANOTHER PROPOSAL - But this time to get rid of ALL NSW country trains.

Their are various links to news articles that have this story

Their was a so called transport master plan for the next 20 years, but bu ried in it (Of course it would have been buried deliberately) is a proposal of that NSW country trains (CountryLink), or the more likely possibility of replacing all NSW country trains.

Let's put this way, Infrastruture NSW is headed by a former NSW premier, Nick Greiner. He seems to be very anti-rail, but very pro-road.

Damn, that sucks. I'd read in the latest Track and Signal magazine that the NSW government was scrapping both the Countrylink and Cityrail names and replacing them with the stupid 'NSWtrains' and 'Sydneytrains' brandings respectively in the next two years, but to actually scrap all remaining country rail services?

I don't think in this day and age of rising fuel costs and environmental activism that not even the Liberal party (which I don't know about the NSW branch but the WA branch are notoriously anti-rail and anti-public transport) would be that arrogant or naive.

I still don;t know what NSW railfans are complaining about. The Victorian railway infrastructure is nearly non-existent to the rest of the country, especially when you compare what it was once like. Mainline steam has basically been non-existent this year, and the Victorian Fast-Rail project has put our railways in decline rather than improvement. Yes, I could blame the 'Break of Gauge' for the nonsense we get now, but really? You're complaining? The rail industry down here is dead compared to the past, and as much as the people complain about it, freight transport by rail here is limited as there is little we can move in bulk now; everything else is left to the road. The fact you still have a country service is a godsend, because I hardly call what we have now efficient. Down right pathetic if you ask me.

Whats next take away RTM's Steam loco Mainline running rights?

And kid, do you really think that is a priority to Governments today? Various officials here are very anti-heritage; anything that puts their operations in a bad light (because they're a damn side more reliable) Seriously, steam on the mainline would be first to go, way before the removal of country services. As sad as it is coming from me as a steam enthusiast, but the need for a country rail connection is far more important than steam trains, no matter how much we'd like it to be.

Rant Over...
Tim

This is the third rail article today in that excuse of a newspaper.

And with the other related articles such as the trains using a crossing twice, what do you think of the comments (that have to be approved) of someone using the term "choo choo brigade? It's deliberately not used in a friendly way.

A signal box has been demolished, and a run around loop at a station was removed. If I am correct, both these were heritage listed. The heritage list lists especially for the signal box, that it was a significant for heritage reasons.
