Has anyone seen a series of coaches for the Empire State Express? Anywhere? Here I have this drop dead beautiful Dreyfus Hudson J3a streamlined locomotive, but I dearly want the Empire State Express coaches to pull with it. Whitepass made one, and only one that I can find, coach which says Empire State Express on the side. Why just one? It's <kuid2:58422:100442:1> NYC Baggage/Mail. Surely there must be more somewhere?? I find old references to it by "BillVU", but he seems to be gone, and all the pictures he posted are gone with him. I've been searching hard, all over the place...

I didn't know that, I just saw his name come up in searches for Empire State Express. Interesting.

Basically he took different models, reskinned them and posted videos of them in action on Youtube while passing them off of as the work of reputable creators like Steve Lerro. He even had a website or two where the fake content was sometimes released. They were illegal in the fact that Vu's reskins breached the copyright of K&L and claimed to be something they really weren't, plus there were many models he reskinned and redistributed without permission or otherwise in violation of the licenses drafted by the original creators. That's from what I could find about him.

Thanks. I didn't mean to start a thread about that guy, he just came up in my continued search for Empire State Express coaches. Have you seen any of those? Such as the one and only beautiful one that Whitepass did?

No problem! Trainz Forge has a huge pack of NYC streamlined cars including those that would've been used on the Empire State Express. I'd recommend that.

Wich Hudson did you get, I found two available, one from K&L Trainz and one on Steam from NV3 Games? Also can these be used in the new version Trainz 2022 ?

When I bought Trainz TRS19 Platinum, one of the many things that came with it is this drop dead beautiful payware version:

For Christmas, I got two gift certificates; I could either buy TRS19 Platinum, or put a little more with it and get the base version of TRS22 - which comes with almost nothing. TRS19 Platinum comes with SO many payware add-ons, it really pays for itself. Of course, that meant I didn't get the latest & greatest version of Trainz. Most of those payware items should all transfer to TRS22 if and when I get it, BUT, they only list TRS19 for this particular item...

If you want to release a modified payware coach or loco where you made very minor changes like adjusting a color and slightly changing the road name, is there a way to at least release the file of the changed road name and color file and the person must have the payware product because you aren’t distributing the actual train car or loco files? I guess if it’s a K&L product it’s a no even if it’s just a couple of image files because all the files are copyrighted by him even if you change the color and change the font of the road name. The person getting the files must have already purchased the product and they have to clone the car or loco and replace the files in the folders with the ones they downloaded. One time a guy asked me to send him reskin files of Reading and Northern coaches, he already bought the originals, he just needed the graphic files that I reaskinned. He must have seen my svreenshots somewhere. Steve’s license states that reskins are for personal use only, I’ve seen others make reskins of his stuff and post screenshots.

Well Trainz does have a system that not many people make full use of known as Aliased reskins. An alias differs in that the only things contained in it's files is a config and a few textures. The original asset becomes a dependency of the reskin through the use of the "mesh-asset" tags in the config.txt which point the asset to REFERENCE meshes from the original item. A script inside the aliased asset then applies the textures to the mesh through "texture_replacement" effects as defined in the config.txt. Railworks has a simillar system in that reskinners can release reskins of payware stuff without illegally having to distribute the mesh files.
