Edit Session in Surveyor revisited

Referring to Casel's case August 30, 2013 and consequent replies. My question is this: is there any way of saving Edit Session Dialoque permanently (i.e. more than once) in Surveyor? (TS12 build 58414) For the life of me I cannot understand why Rules, Commands & Driver Schedules need to be session specific i.e. specific to one particular Drive Session. I have 18 Driver Schedules with up to 40 commands in them (for trams). I'm fed up spending more than 4 hours entering driver commands in Driver Setup each time I want to have a Drive Session. This surely is madness. I'm also sure that the aim of Drive Session is not to drive people mad, but that's what I'm experiencing now. (This email app I'm using now for the first time is also giving me the ****s) I hope somebody can give me a solution to this problem --- and if not --- Please give me a good explanation why rules, commands and driver schedules need to be treated differently from trees, backyards and toilets IN SURVEYOR!!! The way I understand this game is that first you lay the track in Surveyor and then you go to Driver to drive on it i.e. Surveyor has priority over Driver. - So why oh why this diabotanical Edit Session unsaveable abodimidity in Surveyor??? Now totally bald Old Fart

One way to tackle this could be to set everything up and then save it like a base session. This method works well in setting up industries so you dont have to do it each time you create a session. To use the base session, Save it under a different name then carry on with normal session additions.the base session then remains to be used over and over with your special information intact each time. ( It pays to keep a backup in case you slip up and add unwanted data).
Cheers,
Mike

Hi kari9c8, Having read your post I'm not quite sure as to what your problems actually are. Or should I say I can't understand the problem. So.....let's go through it step by step.
STEP 1 You load in your route, create new session, enter all of your Driver stuff, commands, rules etc etc. save it (lets call it session 1). Then play the session.
Step 2 You now want to make a different session (but using all (or most) of your existing data). So you load in session 1 (Edit session). Save it as session 2 (Save as...). Do your modifications then save. Session 2 will have ALL of session 1 data plus any mods you do. Save it then run it.
Step 3 Repeat ad infinitum.
Just noticed the reply by mikeaust which is saying more or less the same thing. Bottom line is, you can save any session as many times as you want (along with all of the session data) as long as you use a different name. Hope this helps.

Kari,

You might want to as suggested setup the base session, but use the schedule library with the copy commands from command.

You setup your multitude of schedules within the Schedule library just like you would for individual drivers when this is done, this is now a set library that can be added to later on and modified as needed.

With the schedule library done, you ensure that the Copy Commands driver rule is loaded and enabled. You now do the following within the driver setup:

Put in a wait for... 20 seconds.
Put in the Copy Commands from and pick from library instead of from another train. The schedule library opens up and now there's the list of all your schedules. Pick the one you want.

The display will be a woman standing at a copy machine and that's that.

Put in the repeat if you want.

Now later on in Driver...

The drivers will start their schedule normally. They will wait the 20 seconds you told them to do so, then the commands will expand out and you'll see them as you set them up in the library. You can even modify the driver schedules just as you normally would in driver.

If you do decide to make changes, remember to go back to the base session and modify the schedule there so that it is populated to all your drivers that share the same route.

Thank you for your replies. I'll try to be less frustrated this time and explain my problem to you again. (How do I get to the line below as the Enter key refuses to function in this email app) Well, bear with me. 1. - I have finished my track layout in Surveyor but I have not finished with other items in my layout. 2. - I'm ready to enter all my driver schedules and select relevant rules (including schedule library). 3. - I edit the session in surveyor and include all the items I need. 4. - I change the name of Edit Session and save the Surveyor layout. 5. - I click Quickdrive and go to driver session. Everything works beautifully and I save the game & exit Driver and Surveyor. 6. - I go back to the Surveyor layout I just exited and call up Edit Session. All my entries have disappeared and Edit Session displays Default instead of my supposedly saved Edit Session. --- My point is this: is there any way of saving my changes to Edit Session permanently in Surveyor mode? That is having my Session Rules and Driver Setups saved together with the rest of my Surveyor layout. --- My TS12 build 58414 won't allow me to do this more than once which is for the Quickdrive from Surveyor. --- One more point: I'm still building the rest of my layout - buildings, trees, textures etc.. Would a saved separate base session show the current state of my layout while I'm still building it? --- Please keep on replying. Eventually we will get to the same wavelength. --- Greetings from an Old Fart (still bald).

Regarding the enter key issue, you can either use your browser's compatibility mode or use Standard Editor in the forum settings (click Settings at the top to access these).

An important thing here though. If you save any sessions in Driver itself, these become void if you then change the route in Surveyor - no getting around that one. Also be aware that using Quickdrive is not the same as properly saving the session and running it from the main menu.

I have had a similar problem at times in 2012 pre SP, when I used the quickstart button and saved a session. Now I save the session first, then choose Exit Surveyor from the menu. Then choose the route and session I just saved and I dont get the problem.
cheers,
Mike

Are you opening the surveyor edit route? and clicking on edit session in the route itself. If so you wont get the saved session as it is not in the route. When you open trainz and select route you will see a number and some arrows to the right of the route name. Click the arrow to open the saved sessions and then click on edit session and you will get the saved session with all the commands.

Don't edit the route unless you do it via the edit session. The session will only remember where things are at the point of saving, it wont update if you edit via the route.
