ease of use - Via Rail Creation

Hi everyone,

I have some questions about the Trainz game. I currently have MSTS and notice that there is alot of content for Via Rail as far as trains and a few routes but getting the additional content to work is a pain in the rear and not user freindly at all. I remember playing with this game some and am wondering how easy it is with trainz to add new trains and create routes and whatnot??? I have a vison of replicating the route in NewBrunswick Canada and need to make sure I am starting with the right game to begin with...

Thanks for any info provided.

So that brings another question. Is there much content for Via rail as far as trains to download out there? I may be able to figure out how to make routes but creating trains in 3d max may be over my game...

If you know of places I can download such content can you please let me know.

Thanks everyone.

heres some

as far as i know, there is a f40ph,a p42,a couple f7's, A's and B's and a whole set of passenger and baggage cars, but the p42 is so annoying to try to get into the game.

EDIT:there is a built in feature called DLS,it downloads then automatically installs,it is so much easier

You may want to think about getting TRS2006 for the built-in content and TC for the latest game engine to build the route in. There are routines to bring in DEM data. Reskinning is fairly easy in Trainz so if you have a model in the wrong colours then it can be reskinned quite easily. You need the content creator's permission to upload it to the DLS etc but for your own use this is not required.

Probably the biggest asset is the forum for assistance or making a request for new content.

So is the content created for 2004 compatible with 2006? I seem to see more content for 2004 evidently than 2006.

What is "TC"?

If the content for 2004 isn't compatible, is there just as much via rail content in your opinion for 2006?

Also is there a way that pictures of say train stations can somehow be converted to create content for the route?

Thanks.

The evolution of TRS goes as follows:
Trainz (pre SP3/Sp3)
Ulatmate Trainz (UTC)
Trainz Railroad Simulator 2004 (TRS2004)
Trainz Railroad Simulator 2006 (TRS2006)
Trainz Classics 1-3* (TC1, TC2, TC3, collectively: TC)
Trainz as a whole (TRS)
*TC3 is not released yet, but is advertised.

All content made for earlier versions of TRS than the version you have will work in later versions.

One can use DEM data to create routes, or the baseboard blocks to place images on routes.

How does one aquite DEM Data? Is that then loaded into 3d max or does that go directly into TSR2006 to make the maps?

Thanks
