Driver Order Questions

Ok, so I am setting up a scenario for use with iPortal and a few friends, as well as keeping my rout running. My plan is to run this scenario for 24 hours once a week that way every one can run their trains through my route. But of obvious reasons, I cant sit for 24 hours and play trains. So it up to the AI drivers (I know, my route is doomed.) to run the basics. Such as getting coal form the mines to the power plants. My Mine can load 100 hoppers and fit them all on its tracks, but my power plants can only hold 10-15 cars. SO this means that a coal train would have to be broken apart in a yard and then shipped out in 3 smaller trains.

My plan/question is this: I want to have my coal hoppers sit empty on track A. I want 3 locomotives to pick them up and load them at the coal mine. I then want to have the 3 locomotives then drop the cars on track B. I then want 1 locomotive to pick up 10 cars form track B and take them to the power plant to unload. Once it unloads, I want it to drop the empty's at track A and pick up 10 more at track B.

Then I want the fist 3 locomotives to pick up the empty's at track A and re start the posses.

Now I know I can tell the AI to uncouple car #1 and couple to car #100. But I cant guarantee that there will always be car #1 and Car #100 to couple too.

Is there a way I could tell the train to couple at track mark "Yard 1" and couple at track mark "Yard 2" and have it couple to only the cars there? And is there a way I can make the train uncouple X# of cars? So when I want one of the short trains to take 10 hoppers form a sting of 100 they only take 10 no mater what car numbers they are?

Now that i think about it, I think there is a couple at track mark command, but I cant remember.

That is way to complecated for the AI drivers to understand, mine cant even decide who to go first when they meet at points. You definately wont be able to keep that going for 24 hours. I have tried to make complicated AI sessions but thats a no no unless you are really experienced.

Hi JIb228,

As klambert says, you need experience. But the only way to gain experience is to try it. So the command you were asking about is the couple at trackmark command which is available on the DLS. Just tell your driver to couple at a named trackmark and he will couple to any vehicle that is close to that trackmark. As far as the uncouple from# command goes, I think from memory it is limited to about #20. I am not at home atm. so sorry I can't quote kuid numbers.

Cheers,

I like that little quote....

For future times, its Jib.

I looked on the DLS a little and I think I might have found some commands that might work.

Off to test them on my test track.

Hi Jib,

I am home today so looked up the kuids for the commands you will need.

Couple at trackmark kuid2:57145:811001:1
Couple to vehicle facing trackmark kuid:131986:210015
Uncouplez from kuid:66277:80005
Uncouplez kuid:66277:80000

Cheers,
Bill

Thanks Bill, I already tried a few of those on a test route, and even have them set up on my main route. Ill get those ones and test them out and see how well they work.

As for what I have, I have found a few minor issues, but I can work around them. And the AI seams to handle the work load.
