Download Woes

I recently purchased Trainz 2010 along with a 3-month download ticket. I did manage to get the train simulation itself and get it up and running. It has just a very few scenarios so I decided to try to download some addition ones. Let's just say I have yet to get one accessible. I download the scenario using the ftp option - in as it is the only way I can get it to download. There is always a long list of "dependencies" that it seems to indicate are required. Since it is such a lengthy list, I select the add to cart option. When I go to the cart and see the items I select Download All. From there I go to a Page Not Found page each time. I have tried to download the items individually using the ftp option each time but that is an eternity in getting them all downloaded that way. The simulation is quite interesting with the few scenarios that come with it but it would be wonderful to add more. I did try to download a one with few dependencies and to take each of them individually but the scenario still did not show up on my simulation when I run Trainz 2010. I have been at this for a couple of weeks and am about to just throw in the towel. Any assistance would be appreciated.:'(

Well pretty much every route uses content created by dozens of other people. The system wouldn't work very well if every route builder had to create his or her own content from scratch for every route they wanted to create.

If you are unable to use Content Manager, then you likely have a problem with your firewall blocking access. CMP will make life vastly easier.

Also, and I can't think of where this option is off the top of my head, but TS2010 actually has a lot of built-in routes; you just can't see them. There's something in the options I think, having to do with favorites. Maglev 2006 and Metropolis-Modula City are two I find especially fun.

Some of these routes do not have "sessions" meaning you can't drive them. The quick-and-dirty fix for this is to select the route, click "Edit", which will put you in Surveyor, and add a locomotive. It doesn't matter which (I had a Conrail SD-80MAC running Disney's monorail) and save the session.

You will find some dependencies are not on the DLS or even available at all. That's because the content creators elected not to put their creations on the DLS. Search here and you'll usually find where that content is located. Worst comes to worst, your route should function fine without them or you could substitute if you determine what's missing.

Yea...this is a mad default setting. When you load up 2010 and click routes to go to the routes menu, look for a yellow/gold star at the top of the page. This is the favourite button(don't ask why). Clicking on this to uncheck it will reveal a lot more routes including any that you have downloaded since initial installation.

Also, if you are running Windows Vista or 7, make sure you are running Trainz as administrator - you can do this by:
1.Right-click the Trainz shortcut.
2.Click Properties.
3.Click Compatibility.
4.Click in the box labelled 'run this program as an administrator' (it's usually the bottom box) to place a tick in it, then click OK.

When you next run Trainz after doing this, you will get a User Account Control box appear, which you need to click Yes (Windows 7) or Continue (Windows Vista) to run the program.

Once that is done, run Content Manager once to configure the trainz: link.

Thank You!

I do appreciate the replies and have made notes from them. I did set the Windows 7 to let me run the program as the Administrator. Under Scenarios I have only 4 - which is what I had when I installed. I have also looked at routes and not found the ones you named but did find some. I had a trial-and-error session downloading bits and pieces of the program until I finally got something that would run. I have to wonder if I missed a download that had more routes and so forth. Let me dig into the manual and keep clicking options. I am sure it will all make sense at some point. Thanks so much!

Downloading

Hi Sam

If you still have problems try using Downloader Pro its an older downloader but it still lets you download 2009 2010 all the way back to trainz original
saves files cdp which you can load into all versions of trainz and gets most of the dependences for you im using it at the moment as I am typing Im still using Xp with service pack 3 so im not sure about windows 7 running it but it is worth a try.

It will run, but you will need to run it as administrator, and you may need to tell the program where your trainz folder is.

Be aware though, that due to a bug in Trainz (2006+), the Batch Install button does not work correctly - once you have downloaded the content you will need to point Content Manager to the cdp files (which are usually in the Trainz Downloader Pro folder, unless you change that via the settings box in Trainz Downloader Pro). It should all then install into Content Manager.
