Download Vs Purchasing Disk

Not crazy about paying the $10.00 to ship a CD, so I am wondering if there is any difference on buying Trainz2009 as a Download or kicking the $10.00 for the shipping.

Is there a difference in content?
can I put the DL on CD so I could reinstall if needed.

Thanks
John

hey man welcome. if i were you, i would get the cd. lots of people who download it have alot of problems, like updates, and especially with their serial numbers. with the cd, you get a case and a manual, plus if you ever have a problem with the game, you will at least know you have an actual cd, not a download to go off of.

i bought the cd. definitely worth it. besides, you will need to shove out more money later on. (like for downloads and stuff).

There are issues if you get Steam's version, but the N3V digital download version should be identical to the DVD version.

It is recommended that you use a download manager to download the digitial download, such as Free Dwnload Manager (www.freedownloadmanager.org).

You have to place all of the .bin files and the setup.exe program in one folder, and make sure that the .bin files are all of the correct size.

I would think that you could burn all of the .bin files and setup.exe to disks.

Retro.

First, DO NOT get the Steam or any other version. Too many problems. However, I take it your were considering the Auran version all along since you're asking about the hardcopy.

I prefer physical media myself. However, Auran/N3V seems to run a pretty tight game as far as their download service goes. You just have to know 1. to use a download manager as Retro already said, and 2. put all the downloaded files in a single directory/folder. If you download, you theoretically have access to the files and your serial number for as long as a particular product is supported, and maybe longer. However, I like physical media (and non-DRMed products like Trainz) because I don't have to hope and keep my fingers crossed.

FWIW, the DVD discs Auran use are high-quality in my experience, although I still suggest backing up. If they send burned DVDs, they use GENUINE Taiyo-Yuden discs (by *far* the highest-quality burnable media available) or use commercially-pressed discs, which usually don't rot.

If you are going to do any route creation to submit to the DLS, I suggest you get the disks. That way you can easily install it in two different directories (or drives). Use one as your working copy and keep the second for testing and checking. I keep my testing version stripped to only built-in components. Works great for making sure that all the stuff you build into a route is in fact on the DLS.

I can't answer about any difference between Trainz2009 on CD vs. download, as I only bought the download. I had no problem with the download. I downloaded to a back up directory, copyied to a working directory, and it installed fine. Yes, you can back up the download on CD so you can re-install. However, you don't need to do so. If you buy the download, and for some reason lose it, you can download it again.

I bought the digital download off Amazon for $19.99. Had no problems with it and was kinda wanting to run some payware. That I had gotten for it the same day. But if you got the extra money and can wait. I'm all for the disc version usually. The only two pros about the digital is it`s always available and can download it as soon as you pay.

i purchased ts 2010 3 months back and cant install it a single time bcz it always said source file is corrupt

You should start a new thread for this so we can help you. You haven't made clear whether you are talking about a download or disk.

Post a ticket to the helpdesk. it can undoubtably be sorted out either by Auran or us users, but this is the wrong thread!
