Download Station Not Responding

I recently attempted to download a locomotive from the Download Station.

Clicking on "Download Helper" causes no response.

If I go to the secondary download menu with the choice of helper or direct,
if i choose the helper, I get the message:

Safari can’t open “trainz://install/%3CKUID2:72938:11137:1%3E” because Microsoft Windows doesn’t recognize Internet addresses starting with “trainz:”.

I was using Safari as my browser, so I switched to Internet Explorer and tried the same thing. Got the message that "This site is unavailable"

I can use the direct method, but cannot understand why the download Helper is not working. Has the Trainz download helper address been corrupted? Any ideas as to what is happening here?

Curious, you're the second person I've seen this month with a problem like that. Maybe something (Registry cleaner? A Microsoft update?) is erasing those settings.

Anyways, here is a post I did a couple days ago with the info I have on the URL: Trainz Protocol registry settings. Keep in mind that (as mentioned in the post) if you save the text in the code box to a .reg file, you may need to adjust the path if you don't have TS2010, are not using XP, and/or did not install to the default location.

If you're comfortable using Regedit, you could use it to take a look at the registry setting and see what it currently says. That might help identify what's causing this. (Note that the path to Content Manager won't have the double backslashes or backslashed double quotes when viewed in Regedit.)

Hi John,

You need to associate CDP files with Content Manager (CM) in order to download your files.

I hope this helps. I'm not familiar with the process, so I hope this heads you in the right direction.

Great articles, by the way, over at the VR. I have enjoyed reading them.

John

Thanks for the info,

And John, I very much appreciate your telling me you enjoyed the articles. It really helps to know you like them!

Update:

I did a registry cleanup, but that didn't change anything with this, but I did find that I can download from the Download Station by working from within CMP. The problem is only when I use the link to the DLS from the forum, so from now on, I'll just access the Download Station from Content Manager.

this is also happening to me.

I know the why, just not the solution (yet)..

basically within IE or Firefox there is a program manager, so that certain file extensions (from the web) are handled / opened with specific programs. This is similar to, "control panel->default programs->file extensions".

Except that it is specific to each browser, for instance in firefox, "tools->options->applications.. which in there should be listed trainz:// and the corresponding program to open it with. IE8 is a little different as it uses same protocols as windows.

Whats occurred is that within the web browser application list, the trainz link hasnt been associated with the trainz downloader, this is NOT the same as windows file extensions associations, as in, it is a seperate entity and whilst similar, not connected (not least in firefox anyway).

i just haven't the time to dig through windows registry settings for the browser to find out which bit is pooched. If i get time, ill post back with results.
