Download Station?? and cool industry things

Am totally new to Trainz. Bought 10:Engineer Edition the other day as a starter. So far pretty good. No complaints, but some things are a little vague. I DL the extended manual for Trainz 2006 to get going better with 10. Thanks for that manual.

I'm a little confused about DLS. Is all that free? If so, how does one get the DL content installed so it shows up on the list of engines and rolling cars in Surveyor? If none of it is free, I guess that means one has to buy a ticket for any of that content?

At the Armour Plant Ind. I guess those cows just don't get in a cattle car, but the hanging meat might get in one of those yellow Armour boxcars. So far no luck though. And where does that meat unload at? Anybody know?

I did get the coal plant to load TRS coal hoppers and unload at the powerplant and other coal bin. Cool.

Got the Decker Ind to put logs on a log wagon. Cool.

Can't figure out how to get the Intermodal object going to load containers, and it has two diff kinds of track, concrete and oak. By the way, how does one, or can one, merge concrete and oak track? What do I do to get the Intermodal Ind. to load containers? But won't lost sleep over that.

Would rather get Seaport to working. Thats a cool place, but so far no interactivity has happened. What rolling stocks are compatible with Seaport?

The 2006 manual speaks of "fixed track." My 10 disc came with only one, a 20m section apparently for a steam engine as the properties shows water, etc.

I discovered by accident that the wagon track is for those horses and wagons that go trotting along. Neat.

Does anybody know what some typical old American west steam engines are, to use along with the old west horses and wagons and static scenery that came in Trainz 10?

Other than that, what are the best industries that work the most and the best, and their compatible cars, so that I may buckle down to having some fun with Trainz 10. Thanks.

Hi shovelbell,

Firstly, welcome to Trainz! Here on the Forums you will find a treasure-trove of information.

Now to answer some of your questions:

Yes, the DLS is all free. To get it installed, my favourite method is to go into Content Manager, via the Content button on the Launcher. Search for what you want, and download away!

There may be errors to fix and dependencies to download. Also, you have a 100 MB limit on downloads. We here on the Forums can help you find dependencies and fix errors.

There are some Civil War era locos available. The W & A RR's General, Texas and Yonah are available, search W & A RR to find them. Some Old west V & T stock and locos are on the dls, and if they ae not, then they are on the creator's website, Carson Car Shops. To download them, save the CDP file, then drag it into Content Manager to install. Then download any dependencies.

I hope this answers some of your questions!

Happy Trainzing,
Kieran.

For a beginner, the best industries to use are those that have have track attached to them. In surveyor take a look at the coal mine, power station and inter modal industries to begin with. Place them on a board and attach some track to the spline circles. Next, place a locomotive and some suitable freight cars on the track, slowly drive your train to the industry and watch the action. The BI1 and BI2 industry tracks need to be programmed before they will they will load and unload products. They are also more flexible in handling a variety of products.

An illustrated tutorial

Hi shovebell --

You might find this illustrated tutorial about configuring industries and freight cars useful:

https://www.rapidshare.com/files/438627468/LARS_ProtoLARS_MIN_Tutorial.pdf

With increased traffic due to the demise of Magaupload and other similar sites it might take a few moments to get a free RapidShare download slot.

Perhaps also consider some of my sessions - they all involve interactive industries. Look for "philskene" as the author. Make sure you get TS10 compatible sessions.

If I could get the damn "Search" function to work I'd provide links to my posts that describe some of the sessions. Sorry.

Phil
