Don't Uninstall TANE

I did and it also uninstallled TRS19 and I lost EVERYTHING. All the stuff I've been working on for the last two months..... gone.

I'm not feeling to great right now.

Uninstalling the game doesn't touch your local data folder. In theory, unless you manually deleted your local data folder, it will still be available.

Check in the default location e.g. C:\Users\<pc_name>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\trs19

Well I'll be. I found it. Now I must see if I can move it to my new install of TRS19. I had to reinstall it in a new folder called NV3 Games_2. My PC wouldn't let me delete the regularly named folder "Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019."

I don't get it. I'm totally confused about how to move my local folder into my new installation....

But why does it also uninstall 19 when you ask it to uninstall TANE?

I have never had the experience of a new Trainz version uninstalling a previous version. Multiple versions have co-existed quite happily on my system without any issues. The new version(s) will always be installed in their own subdirectory under C:\Program Files\N3V Games - e.g C:\Program Files\N3V Games\Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 and C:\Program Files\N3V Games\Trainz Railroad Simulator 2022

Likewise, the user data folders for each version are installed as separate subdirectories under the User directory e.g. C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TRS19 and C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TRS22

The only way that I know of for a version of Trainz (code and/or data) to be deleted is by direct user action - either deliberate or accidental.

I don't understand this part

Before we go any further, are you attempting to move your old T:ANE local data folder so that it becomes your new TRS19 local data folder?

I have never attempted to do that and I am unsure if it would work BUT I have always assumed that the local data folder is where all the content that you have created or have downloaded and installed from the DLS is stored, so it should work - always allowing for the odd T:ANE assets that will not be liked by TRS19.

From the link I supplied in a previous post: And I would recommend that you COPY rather then MOVE so you will still have the original user data folder in place.

Copy\Move\Archive your Local Data Folder

  1. Open "Launcher > Trainz Settings > Install tab".
    • Note the path displayed in the "Local Data Folder" field (this is your current data directory where your user content resides).
    • Recommended...
    • Highlight and Copy this path to Notepad.
    • Verify all other tabs contain the settings you want, including your authentication credentials.
  2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the current data folder (you may paste the path from step 1 to open directly).
  3. Open a second instance of Windows Explorer and create a new empty folder at the desired location (e.g. D:\TANE_Content)
    • Highlight and Copy this new path to your clipboard
    • Paste this new path into the "Local Data Folder" field
  4. Close the Settings dialog
    • ...there will be a prompt telling you about restarting, acknowledge it.
    • ...close the Launcher
  5. Focus on the first instance of Windows Explorer, copy all files\folders here into the new folder (the 2nd instance of Explorer).
    • i.e. folders like backup, cache, etc plus assets.tdx and keystore.tdx.
  6. Start the launcher
    • If you're watching the new directory in Explorer you'll see some changes occur (files added).
  7. OPTIONAL - Access "Trainz Settings".
    • All settings verified in step 1 should be present on all tabs.
  8. Click "Start Trainz"
  9. Application will launch as expected.
    • If content is missing, or if a database repair commences, or you're prompted to login, you have made a mistake and will need to re-check the settings above.

I noticed this as well, my uninstall list has a few items listed as TANE, but actually go to 2019 uninstallers, in the end I just deleted the TANE program install and data folders manually, and 2019 installs I no longer needed in case it deleted the wrong one.

Great news to hear ! It's a horrible feeling when you lose stuff and all that time you invested goes into oblivion.

No, it hasn't been fixed.

I think we've all gotten burned by this. It's the packager N3V used that someone never updated the program name-field to change to the proper program name when the program was changed.

The recommended method is to manually remove the data and the program folders. Using a registry cleaner can usually clear the orphaned entries in the Programs and Features menu.

It is a bit odd, because I thought you could tell by the icon, but no such luck. I have three entries with the T:ANE icon, maybe the original install plus SP3 and SP4? Then I have seven T:ANE entries with the TRS19 logo. Not sure if that is all the SPs and hot fixes? But then I have one T:ANE icon that is completely generic. And you can't right-click to get properties. I tried adding the Location and Product ID columns, but they are all blank for Trainz, so no luck.

This is interesting as I shall soon need to uninstall my current Trainz Plus installation when my Gold subscription ends. I notice there is an 'uninstall.dat' file in the folder - what if I just click on that?
