Does the AI not like driving backwards? Even at a green light..

Here since 2001, Trainz!!
This trains destination is down the line.. the signal is green, yet it still sits there. I've tried using more trackmarks but still..

Do they not like pushing trains? How do I solve this?

Another AI Woe for you.

Why does this train feel the need to reverse to the headshunt before going forwards on the same track..

AI aren't human, therefore are not as smart. There are rules that I guess you can get on the DLS that make them better, but I don't know what.

There might not be an answer to this. I have found that A1 often has strange ideas and that the only work round is to temporarily take control and drive the train where you want.

Running round is nearly always a problem; why does the engine have to travel up every siding it passes before completing the run round, or even worse, travel for miles up the track before even starting the run round manoeuvre?

If it was all simple and straight forward, half the fun would go out of the game.

When running under AI mode if a lever is missing from a junction that might stop it without notice. I think that AI does not need any signal to function. They seem to be mostly for drivers.
Just some guesses.

Hi David
There are many reasons trains do funny things and in most cases it is how the track is laid out. The second part train goes to head shunt first, you need to place the change train direction command into the driver commands. When a train has done a runaround the engine is still heading in the same direction it coupled at so continues its journey the wrong way.
The first part could be a direction marker blocks the train as the signal wont see that or sometime on a junction an invisible signal has been used and it is red but the visible signal will be green. Check the report button and see if the driver has reported a fault that prevents him from moving, missing lever and no path to destination are common.

I found the way to fix this was to use trackmarks in an over the top way.. to make the train move in tiny bits till its going the correct way then usually its fine.
Also I have resorted to using the path rule for other situations as well as change train direction..

Most strange AI!

In the real world, the duty of the signal is to prohibit entry on to the section to any following train until the preceding train has cleared not only the block section itself but also a further distance known as the "overlap".

The signals in Trainz seem to operate in the same way. I would suggest that your ground signal is too close to the next signal for the length of the train, the loco has not cleared the overlap distance of the ground signal, and therefore thinks it is still under a danger aspect. This would not be the case of course if the loco was at the front of the train.

Try moving the ground signal further away. It may not work but I've solved similar problems with subtle movements like this.

There seems to be no rules as to whether the AI will work properly or not.
One of the consists on my route is a "push-pull", it runs half the time with the loco facing backwards, at the rear of the train, pushing the train. It seems to work just as well in this mode as it does when travelling normally. One exception, when in push-pull it doesn't stop in the right place at stations. The station (AJS Station 1x50s Invisible) seems to think the loco is a coach and the first coach is the loco.
I would agree with the advice "lots of trackmarks".
Mick Berg.
