Hi all,
Does anyone have a Dell XPS M1530 or similar, what spec is it, and how good its it at playing trainz?

I'm looking at a new one for uni and I don't want to give up trainz!

Hi all,
what spec is it,

Google still works afaik

Hi all,

I'm looking at a new one

HHhmm .. what have we here .. Graphics processor > vendor NVIDIA GeForce ... EEeeewwww

This is the last thing I would touch in a lappie , considering the $200.000.000 that nVidia has set aside to fix the problems with the dodgy GPU's ... and lets not forget the the lawsuite form OEM's , also for dodgy GPU's .... and their current share price :hehe:

Can't help you with your query but I had similar thoughts if travelling or away for a few days and miss Trainz. I bought a Dell Inspiron 1520 ago so I don't miss Trainz and have to see a doctor (!). Although I noticed some had probs with Vista installing the prog mine was breeze and now I am quite happy that my favourite simulator can travel with me!

I have an XPS 1530 from back in March this year, i have to say I love my lappy though have never really stressed Trainz on it so cant give any advice on that front. I upgraded mine a fair bit from the base spec though, so it has the 2.5 GHz 9 series processor and 3GB RAM in it with 8600 mobile GPU. I’ve played plenty of other 3d games on it like farcry etc and it seems to handle them pretty well though obviously not as well as a desktop.

Overall im not considering buying a desktop now as the 1530 does everything I need it to.

Hope this helps you.

@ BlueNeon: I have already researched the specs, and chosen my perfect machine. I just want more opinions on it, as these are the best things to have.

Surely, though, if nVIDIA know about problems with lappy GPUs they are not making any more broken ones?

EDIT: Also, I was asking for the specs to make a comparison as to how well trainz runs on different spec version of the XPS.

@Spiffy: Thank you very much, that is exactly the kind of info I am looking for. Now for the bad part: I have been through both UK and USA Dell customisation process, and the UK XPS is a lot more powerful than the US one. Strange...

You need to do more reseach on chip production technics ... perhaps you think they just dump faulty items in the bin or make a limited quantity wafers ... the chips are still in the channels in large numbers .. albeit with a dodge to stop the overheating problems ( which may work on may not , depending on circumstancies )caused by the poor choice of solder ... regardless , the money has been set aside and law suites from channel partners and shareholders alike will continue and the chips still will be sold .. face it they have to be sold to recoupe the millions spent.

And an honest opinion is what I gave you ...... with these mobile gpu's you pays your money and you takes your chances ... forewarned is forearmed

:)

Thank you very much for your input. I value it greatly as I need to know the downsides as well. I am just going to shoot off and do more research now.
