it dosnt absorb the sun light, it just like well you know how UP had green on the nose part of their loco's a while back. that was the same thing it reduces glare.

Amtrak owns 3 different types of locos that all look just about the same. off my memory 2 types are no longer used.

Er.. do they use any other diesels apart from P42s?

Except perhaps for the F59PHIs on the West Coast and the few Dash-8s, I think Amtrak uses these locomotives almost universally.

i think thats ^ a p40, if so no.

Amtrak had 3 PXX series

P-32, dual mode (diesil and 3rd rail powered) still in serive

P-40 , Reg diesil, most are decommissioned

P-42, current model, pretty much all in service.

thats a P40, which means amtrak no longer uses it, but they do use its successor, the P42

Mingo: Thanks, that's what I meant.

Iced: More than likely, it was actually a P42. "Aclea colors"...I assume it looked like this?

Peter: You sure the P32AC-DM's aren't in use any more?

Roorocz: It's actually an F59PHI. Amtrak uses P42's, F59PHI's, and P32BWH's as road diesels. On the Northeast Corridor, they use HHP-8's, AEM-7's, and Acelas. And on the Empire Service, they use P32AC-DM's.

Jimmyp4: The P42 is the SUCCESSOR to the P40.

Amtrak doesn't use P32s. Those are used by the Metro-North & New Haven lines in New York. It's just the P40s & P42s.

P32's ARE still used by Amtrak. They are used to access Penn Station via the Hudson Line from points north. They are the successors to the FL9's and Turboliners that originally made the run. Take a visit to the Hudson Line some time or visit Metro-North's next Harmon Shop Open House and you'll see all the proof you need that the dual-mode Gennies are still the work horse on the Hudson.
