Do you trust Sodor Island 3D (SI3D)?

Can I trust SI3D? Does Auran trust them? Do you trust them? If so do they have any 2012 locos?

I've never seen any problems with the website itself, the main problems are the file hosting sites they use, which most people use anyway. The file downloads are either mediafire or rapidshare, both of which are careless about the advertisers they use, and I've gotten browser hijacker popups from both rapidshare and mediafire. Once the models are downloaded they usually require a lot of fixing and hunt the KUID before they will work in TS2010 native mode or TS12, so unless you are prepared to do a lot of technical work you won't be able to use most of them. All the screwing around is worth it to me, after several weeks of cloning and repairing and updating my grandkids can run most with no problems.

Took less than a week to get those working, Toby and Duck were a lot harder and I never did get the Sodor milk wagon working at all since it has so many unknown KUIDs in it.

If you have to ask...

Well, you download stuff you'll find out.

All of that applies to TS12 too, what I would suggest is download one or two of your favorites, then post the KUID numbers and error messages, here's a step by step for that;

Also you better have a good firewall / antivirus, McAfee gives both the Sodor Island forums and the jimdo download page a green light, but I just now downloaded the fat controller to test and found that mediafire still hasn't cleaned up their act.

I have Firefox set to block popups and prevent redirects, so anything that gets past those guards has to be bad news.

The 2009 version of the tankers require the NG trucks from the 2006 site. Not sure what other kuids you're talking about, really. Know which ones they are? I'll see if I can help.

I will have to find someone to help me with that and what is a kuid

...you're kidding right?

A kuid a Trainz asset, you know, what you find in Content Manager? I thought this'd be common knowledge even to new users.

Not very helpful, I found Trainz to be a VERY steep learning curve and I am still on it.
Having said that, Content Manager is much better than using abbreviations when answering a newcomer.
I have got to download Thomas content after my neighbours young son has seen my weekends photos so will follow with interest.

I have been a member their for several years now, and they are always very lenient on the rules. They give multiple chances to those who break the rules and allow them to correct their mistakes. Not once have they banned a single user for no reason whatsoever. This is also not a reason to not trust them and it is also not what was meant. It was a question of weather their content was trustworthy and not some cheap site that is designed to give someone a virus. Its also a needless bump on an old thread.

For what it's worth to the perusers of this thread...

I am the admin over there on SI3D and am currently re-vamping alot of the content to work out of the box as a more competant modeller now I can offer more custom dependancies which I am able to distribute and have gained the relevant freeware distribution permissions/licenses from the authors of any 3rd party content we use.

Simply put, from now on when we release anything that isnt a route, you should have all the dependancies you need included. Out testing is more rigorous now which should hopefully sort that out too.

The only thing that wont change just yet is the hosting provider, but I am looking into possible alternatives in the future.

Hope this helps you.

I've tried to keep SI3D out of this forum simply because I know how some of the more serious railway enthusiasts here, myself included enjoy the absence of the younger genres and the fanbsae that comes with it. I have always thought that to be a nice seperation but obviously will help anywhere i can.

When they first started i did but after another user on their forums started sending threats to me i left.
Some of the users there had digusesting attitudes though.

Sorry to say this, but I agree with TheWaluigiKing here.
The forums just isn't the same, some people there used to be nice, but now they have become toffee-nosed snobs that show little to no respect for non-model/route makers and beginners (especially those who use Sketchup).
However, there are a few users there who are very kind so not all is lost for me... yet.

They never gave me a second chance, even after I promised I would chance!
