Display tram at wattle park destroyed by arsonists on Boxing Day

That's just a damn shame! "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is wrong, we're going to devolve into the planet of the apes...:(

Disgusting! How empty does your life need to be to do something like that. [Can't find a vomit emoticon]

he has a point though....

sadly, people do this all the time: the big AT&SF 2-10-4 in Salvador Perez park in Santa Fe New Mexico (No. 5030: http://steamlocomotive.info/vlocomotive.cfm?Display=873) is covered with grafitti from pilot to tender tank. it appears its a right of passage for local kids to hop the fence (which was replaced a few years back and topped with concertina wire) and spray paint all over her. She's gang signs galore, and the sad part is she's in a good part of town (or so my family there says). meanwhile, her wooden pilot rots, her headlight lens has been smashed about a dozen times, there's brass fittings that have been carried off (last time i was there i think the whistle was missing, at least i didn't see it), and god knows what else has been done to her. the city pays for this extravagant party every year, but they cry poor and won't spend the couple hundred bucks it would take to throw a fresh coat of paint on her. It's just dispicable.

Erm, ^^ nothing to do with above posts 5 & 6, but that sux!
I used to play on those as a child and to see some scum has done that makes my blood boil
They should be made to inspect the damage close up & repeatedly with gentle assistance to the rear of ones head :D
Those beautiful trams are the main attraction and the coolest plaything ever for generations of fascinated children.
They make/made Wattle Park a pure wonderland of enjoyment for all nippers :'(

yeah, sorry, didn't mean to hijack this thread like I did, I was just giving another example. In any case, I agree with the above post about the perpitrators...but I should add that they should then be taken to the home of the nearest running example of those trams and then be chased down the track/run over by it. Repeatedly.

Sadly, this isn't the first time. Wattle Park actually has two trams in it, with both trams having been destroyed in 2010. Both were replaced with very empty shells (the previous two at least had the bench seats in them!), and now one of these has been destroyed.

The thing is, there's only so many of these trams that can be put into the park before we run out :(

I'm not even sure what that's supposed to mean. I come from a time when gay meant happy.

Back on topic. It's an absolute shame that there are some that believe they have a right to destroy historic artifacts such as this. It should be a crime. Oh, that's right, it is. I'm not sure what the punishment is there, but no amount of punishment will bring the tram back.

This is downright criminal and if they catch the individuals responsible, they should be taught a lesson about respecting property and be forced to scrub toilets for the rest of their natural born lives.

*Large Sigh* God... This is a reminder of what our world is turning into. I miss it when that was very rare for people to do that.

That is a shame it looked nice in the before picture and then some wise guy thought it was a bright idea to just light it up and destroy a piece of history man people theese days they just have no respect or brain cells to destroy a piece of histroy like that. and BTW does any one know why this happened or if any thing else was damaged.

I wish it was still like that. How do you think these vandals would feel if someone set fire to their homes!?

I remember being told of when someone broke into a shed at the Sydney tramway Museum and stole the copper wires out of an almost restored W2 class tram.

Vandals there have also thrown rocks at trams, and broken windows from the railway station behind the museum.

One crazy bugger also stole a full cross-over track that was from bondi junction. He would've had to get a crane and truck in to the museum at the dead of night to do that!

Some interesting things happen in Sydney! :p

I don't consider graffiti (spray paint, not breaking, burning and stealing things) all bad when it comes to preserving. When your local city or preservations don't have money to repaint who comes to the rescue? The spray painters. There wouldn't be any thing left of an area depot (which was left abandoned and is now going to be restored) if it wasn't for "someone" painting on it for decades. It may look bad for 10 to 30 years, but it's much easier to repaint than it is to replace rotten wood or rusted out metal.
