Direction markers

I know this sounds stupid but could someone please tell me which way the direction markers go
1, pointy end
2, flat end

Towards the pointy end.

Used as shown the marker will discourage trains from entering the route with the marker, they will prefer to take the left hand route thru the turnout. Note that direction markers are not infallible - trains will pass them if no other route is available....
