Hi Roy,

This sounds like a database crash or corruption and can usually be repaired without reinstalling Trainz.

Browsing the internet should not kill Trainz unless you are doing something that is very graphics intensive, which could eat up your graphics and system memory, causing Trainz to crash. I rarely access anything outside of Trainz while I am in the program because of this, although having adequate system and video memory (not disk space, but RAM) does help mitigate this. Another thing I suggest you do is run Trainz with the developer options for showing the command line interface. This will enable the cmd prompts which will run at the same time as Trainz. As you update things in the program, they will kick in and show what's going on. If you have two monitors, you can run them on the second monitor and see what's going on underneath the hood. Now anyway, the main point of wanting these to run here is so you can tell when to shutdown your computer after using Trainz. When these windows have closed, once the program has stopped, it is safe to turn your computer off.

Now more importantly, so you don't have to reinstall Trainz after a crash, is how to run database repairs. Start CM (Content Manager) and choose Quick Database Repair... or Extended Database Repair... Don't be fooled by the names because both take a long time to run.

In the event that Trainz or Content Manager will not start, you can run a database repair from a command line.

Start a command prompt with administrator access rights --- Click on Start then All Programs, and Accessories. Right mouse-button click on Command Prompt and choose Run as Adminstrator.
Confirm that you are doing this if you have that enabled.

Navigate to the folder where Trainz is installed and then to the Bin folder. Mine happens to be in:

D:\Auran\TS12\Bin, so I typed D: , press enter, then cd D:\Auran\TS12\Bin and pressed enter.

Yours maybe in C:\Program Files (x86)\Auran\TS12\Bin. For this you need to type in double quotes around the path like this cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Auran\TS12\Bin" and press enter.

At the command prompt type:

TrainzUtil repairdatabase and press enter.

Let the program run. It will run and do its thing for some time, so DO NOT do anything else with your computer during this time.

When the process has completed, try running Content Manager. You may have to repair some content, or view errors to clear the warnings and errors should there be false errors reported.

Have you updated your Trainz with the latest patch?
What does CM say about the missing freight cars, are there updates available that have obsoleted the ones you have?
Could this be a layer/session problem?

Hi Roy,

Deano means do the assets themselves show being out-of-date in Content Manager. This has nothing to do with the latest Trainz version.

Updates-available icon will have a box with a red-arrow sticking out of it.

Obsolete or replaced will have a blue sleeping balloon.

Hope this helps.
