Hi, I was wondering if there was anyone out there who would be interested in making a DEM map for me. I am creating the Norfolk Southern Lafayette District from Lafayette, IN to Decatur, IL and i was wondering before i got to involved if anyone out there would be interested in making a DEM for the area because i am not skilled in that area and have no idea how to do so. Any portion of the route would be great if the project seems to big. Thanks!

May I suggest searching for "FISHLIPSATWORK" on the dls and see if he did one? That may be the ticket for you.

Also GAURC has a "Terrainz" area that you can check out.

Thank you for the advice, I will check gaurc but I have already checked fishlipsatwork and he has Decatur, il heading west but I need the route heading east. I just tried checking gaurc and they seem to be having trouble with their site but I have been on their before and didnt notice a dem of the area I'm doing but I will check again. Do you know if fishlipsatwork is still doing dems, because I may be able to pm him about one and see what he says.

Fishy has not been active in Trainz for years. Have a look here I'm pretty sure there are routes there that never made the DLS. The target site is in disrepair, but the links are still active...

Nope, not what I'm looking for there. That's sad that he is no longer involved because he was really good at making dems, oh well. Thanks for the link anyways, it was worth a try.

You should seriously look into investing in TransDem. For about $34.00 (estimated) for TransDem, you can convert nearly any SRTM data located on the National Seamless Server, and create the route you want.

I don't have the time right now to help you because of my numerous projects, but so far I've been working on Downeast Maine from Brunswick to Rockland.

To create my routes, I'm using Transdem, which is a great program :Y:

If you have an alternative method, I probably will be able to deliver you the dem map. I just need the exact geographical positions ( latitude and longitude ) of the area that you are interested in.

Is Transdem difficult? All depends of your knowledge of Dem and related matters. I had no knowledge of DEM and wanted to run before I could walk.

Advice : If you consider buying Transdem, once you have the program, take your time in reading both manuals and start using the several tutorials.

Do the tutorials several times.

Depending on your sparetime and your speed of learning, transdem will become like making a cup of tea

Also become a member of the Transdem forum, where you can always place your questions.

When it realy gets difficult, you can always send a personal mail to Roland who will assist you all the way .

If you decide to get TransDEM and learn to use it you will love it! I remember finally taking the plunge and I have never regretted it. You will find you'll be making routes of your dreams especially if you want to make an old historic route or like myself a route that should have been

TransDem is a grest program. Learnig curve is somwhat steep due to DEM vocabulary, but worth the effort. The program opens a whole world of route generation. Literally!

Hello Brandon,

Some extra info - The DEM map ( see picture previous post ) was also created using Transdem.

But, if you need a DEM file, just give me the exact lat and long positions of the area you need.

It's always interesting to create a Dem of another area.
