Delete built-in routes

Hi, is there a way on TRS19 to delete the built-in routes that I don't like?
Why I have to loose space on my disk for routes and sessions that are not in my taste?
Please let customers to choose their favorite routes!
Thanks

I would have understood your situation if it was 1989 and you had a 250MB harddisk. But today even 250GB SSD’s are not even that expensive anymore. Many new low end PC’s have a 1TB harddisk.

I suggest you disable what you don’t like in Manage Content and play on. That’s what I did with my 250GB disk.

Deleting a route probably won't free up that much space, as it only deletes the route file - not the 100's of assets and rolling stock items it references.

I don't know what edition you own, but you can go to where ever TRS19 is storing your content (seesettings > install tab for installation location) and enter the packages folder.
There, you can delete the built-in routes and whatever else you want.

The following are built-in items (might not receive all if you own the regional edition):
SC490 - East Coast Main Line - Dundee
SC484 - Cornish Mainline & Branches (TRS19 Builtin)
SC485 - Niddertalbahn (TRS19 Builtin)
SC486 - Canadian Rocky Mountains - Golden BC
SC407 - Sebino Lake

Once you deleted the items you wanted, do a database update so they dont show up in Trainz. Just keep in mind that since you deleted the items, the DLC downloader will appear when you start Trainz.

Cheers

I'm sharing my experience just as info as something to consider. I, like you, initially tried to keep my routes down to the "things I wanted and liked." I had the full TRS19 package but I installed the U.S. routes only because I had no interest in "foreign" locos, cars, routes, etc. But as I downloaded Freeware I kept having missing assets. What a pain to find all those missing assets! I then installed a 1TB SSD and moved my data folder to it. I installed ALL the TRS19 Routes. I joined up for plus and proceeded to download everything I could. The result? I now have almost zero "missing assets" when I grab freeware from Content Manager. Life is so much easier. And if I do have a Loco or Route that I absolutely don't want to see, I just disable it in CM.

I also discovered another thing. There are things to be learned from running through the provided routes even if you don't care for the location, era, etc. I run everything at least once. I had no desire to run the Japan Model Trainz route (part of my Plus benefit) but when I did I found that I was amazed by the layout and session. Multi-level tracks, plenty of AI trains... a Lot to like. I'm not saying you will like and enjoy everything, but you will learn and see some things to be of benefit.

That is my experience anyway. Yours may vary.

You also learn a lot too about how to do things in Surveyor. Over the years, built-in and other people's routes have been my classroom. Even today routes such as the Japanese Model Railroad have introduced me to some really cool content such as the concrete bridge used extensively on that route.

Other routes, in particular those with urban settings, give me ideas on how to layout a convincing busy passenger terminal and yard with a really dense-looking downtown in the background. The dense background maybe only a few buildings-worth deep, but it sure looks bigger than it really is.

So it's worth keeping the built-in routes around at least for awhile, but as Greg says don't disable the content because you'll find yourself chasing missing dependencies forever.

Thanks for your reply. Just to know if I delete for example the folder Sc484, there are 484-1 - 2 - 3 and other 484 folders with progressive numbers and letters. If I delete all 484 folder I delete also all the contents that are dependencies of that route and session? Because I'd like to delete only the route and its sessions but not the dependant contents . It is no to free space on disk but because many of the routes are not in my interest.

You are right; but I have learned a lot of things about Trainz from 2004 up to now. I like to build realistic routes full of details. You can see on my site. The built-in routes are poor of details. Only Sebino lake is OK for me and I upgraded it with the author Jango's permission and made a full detailed route with all the cities of italian padania land and highway, roads and Brescia town perfectly automated. You can enjoy it visiting my site. But, of course, you must have installed the Sebino lake original before intalling mine.

I tried to delete the Sc484 and all its folders; then, rebuilt database. The Cornish route and sessions disappared but there are missing dependencies in the other routes and sessions. So, deleting an Sc folder, it delete the corresponding contents; may be not all, but some built-in content.

Yup this will happen because some of those assets in the package are used in other routes. Your best bet is to restore (reinstall) those packages again and only disable the routes so they don't appear on the menu.

You know there is an option to show "My Content" on the menu so you only see your own routes and assets. I do this all the time unless I want to work with a route I installed from a third-party such as Jointed Rail, or from the DLS.

In some ways I wish we could group the routes by source on the selection bar so we can arrange them by where they were installed from. Combine that with a color code, like that used for assets in Surveyor show KUIDs, and that would help a lot.

I'm running the tinware Classic version of TS2019 Uk Edition (no subscriptions, no beta streams, no Platinum) and I did a fresh new TS2019 install. When the download menu turned up on the start screen I downloaded only what I wanted as well as the Uk specific DLC I'd purchased a while ago. And I've now got a clean install with nothing missing and nothing showing as faulty.
I marked all the routes and assets I didn't want by doing a right click>stop on each listing and they stayed put on N3V's servers and stayed out of my new install exactly as I wanted them to.
